Will Infuse recognize "Tote Mädchen lügen nicht" if I convert the umlauts to "Tote Maedchen luegen nicht"?

Hello everyone, Due to encoding issues with pCloud (creating duplicate folders with umlauts), I would like to convert my entire media library to a non-umlaut format. Conversion examples:

  • ä becomes too ae
  • ö becomes too oe
  • ü becomes too ue
  • ß becomes too ss

Concrete examples:

  • “Märchen” → “Maerchen”
  • “Löwe” → “Loewe”
  • “Für Kinder” → “Fuer Kinder”
  • “Süßigkeiten” → “Suessigkeiten”

Before I make this extensive change: Will Infuse correctly recognize and display these normalized notations? Are there any known issues with media detection using this notation? The change would require me to rename hundreds of folders and files. Therefore, I want to make sure this is a viable solution. Thanks for your help!

Infuse itself wouldn’t do any special conversion of the filenames with regard to matching, but TMDB may have alternative titles listed that would allow the changed names to still be recognized.

If searching on TMDB for the changed names results in a match then it should work in Infuse as well.

If the changed names aren’t listed on TMDB you may think about creating a TMDB account and adding them as alternate titles.

Thanks for the quick reply

Just FYI I tried this and it didn’t pull the metadata and found no matches.

You may want to add the non-umlaut titles to TMDB and see if that helps.

Here’s a real twist. I just replaced the “Mädchen lügen” with “Madchen lugen”

And it worked perfectly.

Maybe TMDB will look for “a” when you have “ä” and so on.

This worked! LOL

Thank you so much, great :+1::blush: but spelling-wise, the conversion would actually be wrong, but it seems to work :joy: that’s really funny. I just typed it into Movie Database: Dead Girls Don’t Lie and that’s where it found it. But okay, I’ll do it like you did because it worked for you. My complete interpretation would be: Agatha All Along 2024 - S01E01 - Are You Looking for the Way [tmdb-138501]
