Why ruin such a-why change such an amazing thing? It feels like this TVOS update is just change for the sake of change... :(

Is it too late for me to do this?

I like your suggestions here and they would indeed make the ui feel more Apple-like. The current UI on tvos feels heavy and unappealing and a significant step down from the old one.

Well, apparently somebody missed my post about the same thing. I’m on board 100%. Take it back to the way it was or just give me the option to do it mayself

Completely agree. I do like quicker access to subtitle and audio track selection, but the advanced options should’ve stayed on top. The bottom now feels too cluttered and blocks subtitles. The swipe down gesture doesn’t really match with how the advanced options slide up now. Feels like change for the sake of change.

Just want to express that I too prefer the advanced menu coming from the top. I don’t mind the new fast access options on the progress bar, but keep the advanced ones at the top, it’s more natural and intuitive - gesture down, a menu appears from the top, gesture up, the progress bar appears from bellow.
It’s just cluttered the way it is, and less intuitive, with the advanced ones being even lower than the fast ones.
Btw, I don’t think this a situation where we need another personalization toggle; to my knowledge, the option menu coming from the top wasn’t a point on contention.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

As mentioned above we have some improvements in progress here in response to some of the feedback that has come in.

One of the main changes we are working on is removing the lower playback settings menu and relocating this back to the top area, similar to how it was in Infuse 7. This of course is a departure from how Apple does things, but overall I think it’s a better placement for a settings menu like this and will help avoid issues with navigating between the playback bar and the new quick settings menus - and provide a more minimalistic appearance when the playback overlay is displayed on screen.

We are also working to adjust the behaviors of the skip intro and skip credits features to allow the buttons to be displayed on their own, without the entire overlay being visible. This will also apply to skip intro, et al. for Jellyfin which will soon be supported for those running Jellyfin 10.10+

There are also some other visual changes in progress to help make the overall experience better.

Plenty of good things to come.

We’ve reworked the layout of the playback controls overlay on Apple TV and this will be part of the 8.0.4 update which we are submitting to Apple today.

There are still a few adjustments we have in progress that will probably land in 8.0.5, but this is what things will look like in 8.0.4.

A post was merged into an existing topic: View and select audio/subtitle tracks on video details page

Funny thing is I was getting used to the layout with the info bar at the bottom🤣, like all the other apps on Apple TV.

For me personally it’s not a good Decision, to put the Menue back to the Top… Its a step backwards…

I didn’t have a problem with the info bar at the bottom. The consistency with all the other Apple TV apps was nice, and I didn’t notice problems with functionality either. It seemed like it took the same amount of swipes/clicks to access the different settings. Really goes to show how hard it is trying to please everyone as a dev. I guess there were some serious problems with the new interface or the feedback received must have been very negative in order for Infuse to roll back the changes.

The revised layout coming in 8.0.4 is more of a hybrid approach that is unique to Infuse.

It keeps the helpful bits like quick menus (for audio/subtitle track changes) which were added in 8.0, and mixes in a UI that is a bit more minimalistic than what Apple uses. The swipe/click actions used to access the full settings menu are actually the same in both versions so there shouldn’t be much of a learning curve when switching to this style.

The updated playback controls are included in Infuse 8.04 which is now available on the App Store.

James, thank you so much for amending the playback UI introduced in 8.0! Navigating the pulldown menus in 8.0 was so clunky — looked cool, but was so clunky.

I’m confused - aren’t these top menus exactly the same as we had prior to moving them to the bottom?

Anyway, please add a cast tab. I hate having to stop playback to check on the actors. It’d be really convenient to access the cast list during playback.

Hi James,

I cannot thank you enough for taking my feedback on board and reverting some of the design changes Firecore implemented with the preliminary 8.0 release. Every day since you implemented some of the reversals/fixes, I notice it and feel happy to have contributed to the improvements. I won’t lie - when I saw the rollbacks I mentioned implemented, I did think to myself, “I did that“, or at least, was a part of that. I notice the small things like how the title of the media down the bottom left of the screen is a different shade of white now and no longer sears the title into my pupils when watching in a pitch-black room on an oled tv and bring up the menu. The dropdown back at the top is welcome too, particularly when wanting to summon it while being able to read subtitles simultaneously

Thanks for listening Firecore, you rocked when I complained, but you rock even more now

As a lifetime subscriber, I can’t pay you anymore money. But if you had a donate button in the app, I would be throwing you a pretty big tip right now - just a thought
