Why prompt for email address when it actually wants a Mac user name/password

Recently I dragged in a bunch of movies into my Mac’s library of movies. When I launched InFuse on the Mac I received an ‘Index error’ message. Even after I removed the same added movies, putting it back they way it was, i got the Indexe error. When I tried connecting using the Apple TV it just gave a generic ‘Error’

Eventually I decided to recreate the Libary access on the Apple TV adding a new Share via SMB. It has been a long time since I had done that so I was confused when I tried to log in I was asked to enter an email address and password by selecting an existing email or create a new one. That didn’t make sense to me since I couldn’t figure out why it wanted an email address when it actually wanted the computers user and password.

My lengthy rambling aside, when adding an SMB Share shouldn’t the prompt be to ender a user account (of the Mac) and not an email address? Or maybe I’m the only person who was confused my this.

The Apple TV will remember accounts and email addresses you have used in the past for various things (Infuse related or not) so it will try to ‘help’ by making a few suggestions.

However, when connecting to a Mac via SMB you will want to use your Mac’s user account name and not an email address.

Thank you. If you ever get bored perhaps you could add a comment to that affect on the screen where it prompts you for a login. Or maybe Im the only person who got confised.
