I’ve successfully JB mt ATV with Windows XP. My ATV is running version 4.4.4. I see an FC emblem where the other logo once was but Im not experienceing any difference. I’m still being charged for movies by the almighty fruit. I haven’t went to the SSH step, will that make any differance? Please advise if I’m missing something.
For me, the great benefit is being able to watch any of my video content without having to deal with LooneyiTunes.
I just liberated my ATV2 and I have to admit this is sweet indded. I have done this before with PS3 Media Server and a PS3 and it works well, but I do not want to deal with the Cinarvia issues, so this is a nice solution.
JMHO
Hope this helps.

Jailbreaking is just the first step. What most will do after that is install some other software (which you can now it’s JB) such as xbmc with the “icefilms” plugin - that will allow you to stream many movies, tv shows etc without being charged (not through the apple sw though - that will still charge you!).

Now this sounds interesting. R there instructions regarding the installation of xbmc with “icefilms” without losing my existing JB?
Like the previous post said, just jailbreaking is the first step. That unlocks the ATV2 so you can add additional 3rd party “stuff”. Once you have jailbroken with Seas0npass, you can then install ATV2 Flash and pick from the list of goodies to install. I first thought that paying for a “hack” was kinda fishy, however with Firecore, these guys are the poo poo. They have packaged many things that you can add-on to your ATV2. The XBMC add-on is by far the best IMO. Once you have installed it (Xbox media center fyi) you can add additional repos to XBMC to get additional content. The IceFilms plugin is the one we use the most. Tens of thousands of free movies, tv shows etc. Icefilms dot info is the website for this.
There are many tutorials out there on how to add repos and how to add content from the repos. Not sure if I’m allowed to post all of that on here, so I’ll leave it up to you to search. However I will give you a quick list of the order to do things…
-
Jailbreak (if not already done)
-
Purchase the ATV2 flash from FireCore. It will give you a download link. From there go to maintenance (which will be installed with the flash install) and install the components you want. After installing each one it will ask you to reboot, I wouldn’t until you install all that you want.
-
Go play with XBMC. You can add repos to it then add on plug-ins or add-ons. Search for the icefilms repo and how to install the repo then how to install the plugin.
If you want another bit of advice too, these guys do a bang up job of keeping things up to date. I would purchase as long of a upgrade as you can afford. I know you can buy 1 year to I think unlimited years of updates. It’s well worth spending the money as they update the app all the time as well as stay on top of iOS and jailbreak updates.
Anything you add from firecore after jailbreaking will NOT lose any jailbreak. Jailbreaking simply gives you the ability to add more stuff. Adding said stuff won’t un-jailbreak anything.
Hope it helps…
Thanks sethf, very informitive, I definitely will look into all this good stuff.
Question, do i need the ATV flash black or just the MiRow? Which one do I purchase? My unit is JB on 4.4.4 untethered.
