What are the Streaming Cache settings?

I couldn’t find an explanation for each of the streaming cache options. What does Auto, Limited, Memory Only, and Legacy do exactly? How do they differ from each other? Auto consumes as much storage as the original file — if the video is 90gb, it will consume 90gb, that I know. If memory only, it won’t (in my experience though, it’s useless because video still has to load when forwarding and playing back).

An explanation on these settings would be great.
