I have a modest Bluray collection, and am in the process of ripping movies to my Synology 918+ for easier playback through Infuse. I love the ability to play uncompressed Bluray with full uncompressed audio on my home theater…but mainly for action movies. Recently having found out about the Vudu $2 disc to digital to get an hdx copy as well as linking with movies anywhere, for a lot of my movies where Dolby Digital 5.1 is more than adequate and I don’t “care” so much about audio quality, not having to deal with ripping the disc and the storage requirements is more than worth the $2 charge in my mind. Adding in ability to easily copy kids movies to an iPad through the Vudu or movies anywhere app for travel and this is definitely the way to go.
So now on to my real question. I have some movies on infuse, and the rest on iTunes movies, movies anywhere, and Vudu. With movies anywhere linked most sync between all of them, but a few are only available on one service or the next. Has there been any consideration for Infuse allowing search function to merge all of these services?
I could see one of 2 ways for this to work, first would be to have infuse log into each app as well, so you can use the infuse interface and browse your collection amongst all services, and if a movie is on Vudu then it could start up the Vudu app to play. Alternatively, if Infuse was able to have access for search within the Apple TV app, this seems to be a one stop shop for searching services that more and more apps are starting to support.
Please let me know if anyone has any thoughts. Or if anyone has an easy way to make searchable all movies at once from infuse as well as streaming providers.
Thanks
I believe the problem lies with the issue that all of those movies use DRM and are not available to any player other than the specific one they are provided on. Infuse can’t play DRM files.
Yes, obviously there is DRM and it can not play within infuse. But to have everything searchable together and then when you decide to play it would open up the appropriate app would be nice. This is essentially what the Apple TV app does, so having infuse support for this would be excellent. However it seems like it might be an easier fix to implement this within Infuse. Maybe the answer would be the other option which is allowing Infuse to be searchable with the global apple search and integrate into Apple TV app and use that as the browser which then boots into the appropriate app.
Is there any app out there that doesn’t handle DRM but is searchable using the Apple TV app? For example, can the Apple TV app search Plex? I’m curious because I don’t use Plex or the Apple TV app.
This is the list of supported searchable apps from Apple’s TV app. Essentially it works as an aggregator and front end that then launches to the respective app.

The point is that there are no apps listed that I can see that are not using DRM for streaming from a specific licensed source. I’m sure it’s a question of how to ensure that all royalties get paid and Infuse isn’t in that arena.
