Hi, I’m experiencing an issue - when watching movies or TV series on my IPad Pro 11 2024 with latest version of Infuse, overall volume dips after loud sound/background music so I barely hear any dialogue. After about 10 to 15 seconds volume is gradually back to normal (evident on on scene change where dialogue came right after loud background music i. e. White Lotus S1 with DD+ Atmos). If I pause/unpause volume is also seems to recover immediately.
I think I’ve the same issue also on Apple TV.
Could be existing since v8.0 I can’t confirm, but I always have to play with volume buttons as there’s volume issues for quite a long time now.
Funny thing is that I don’t have this issue on my Apple TV 4K 2021, only on iPad.
Also it seems that set Downmix Volume to Normalized somewhat helps with this, but generally I hate using DRC as I’m feeling I’m missing creators intent from the source audio track.
Something is obviously wrong here. @james please can you comment on this, it can’t be only my device-specific issue.
Do you happen to have any of these options enabled on your iPad in System Settings > Sound & Haptics?
- Volume Limit
- Headphone Safety
- Personalized Spatial Audio
I can’t say if these would have an impact on what you are experiencing but it may provide some clues.
I checked all of this settings immediately after I noticed the issue. All were unchecked. I guess Apple is doing something under the hood like analyzing system sound to apply some DRC which unfortunately has quite long time to adapt and is very noticeable.
