Video output changing while fast forward/backward

Hi everyone.

I just moved from my Shield + Kodi setup to Apple TV 4K + Infuse (Pro). Everything is great apart from one thing and I’m not sure if this is by design or due to something wrong on my side.

When I’m playing a video from my NAS and I fast forward or backward, the TV goes black for a couple of seconds due to a change in the output format.

I have Match Dynamic Range and Frame Rate turned on (which is a must), and I expect this to happen when I start or stop playing a video. This was the same with the Shield and Kodi.

But it doesn’t seems right that it also happens when seeking an already playing video. For example, if I play a video in Apple TV+ app, I get the expected switch when the video starts but not when I seek. From what I can see, this behaviour only happens in Infuse.

Is this expected? It’s definitely annoying and I don’t know if there’s a setting somewhere that’s causing this.

I tried changing the default video output from 4K Dolby Vision to HDR and different frame rates and it didn’t make any change.

Thank you

That shouldn’t happen. Did you try a different HDMI cable?

Ok so I don’t know if I fixed it or if it fixed itself.

I realise I forgot to mention a possibly important detail: I’m using a HD Fury Arcana in between the Apple TV and the TV/Sonos because my TV doesn’t support eARC and without it I get lip sync issues.

So I tried to connect the ATV directly to the TV and the problem went away. The funny thing is that once I put it back in it still worked correctly… go figure.

These HD Fury devices are notorious for being finicky so maybe the act of unplugging and plugging it back in made it behave. Or maybe it’s indeed the cable, I’ll get a new one if it happens again.

Anyway, I’m a happy user now and can fully remove the Shield

This could be a sign of

Once you unplugged and plugged it back in that probably got the contacts clean enough for another period.
