Infuse Pro 8.4.7, iPadOS 26.5, iPad Pro M5 13-inch
I found an odd bug that was introduced recently in Infuse on iPadOS. I debated even reporting it because it happens only with some files, and it’s kind of convoluted and difficult to explain clearly, but here goes.
On some 4K HDR files only, there are white vertical lines upon playback at the top right and left of the picture. I think the common denominator for the affected 4K HDR files is that the black bars have been cropped, they’re not part of the encoding.
Here’s a picture I took of the iPad playing an affected file in the dark to better see the white lines. Look at the top right and top left.
These two lines are visible throughout playback and are of course particularly obvious when the picture is dark, like in the attached picture.
It’s only reproducible when using Infuse on an iPad. I also tried playing the same files on an Apple TV, an iPhone, and a MacBook Pro, and only the iPad displays those white lines. The white lines are of course not part of the original files.
Here’s the interesting part: as soon as a UI element is superimposed on the screen, for example, if I tap the screen to make the controls appear, the lines disappear. They come back as soon as the superimposed UI elements are gone.
And there’s an interesting fact I discovered this morning: if a Bluetooth trackpad/mouse is connected to the iPad, the white lines won’t appear at all. The same applies if a trackpad is connected from a nearby Mac via Universal Control. In both cases, the white lines do not appear at all during playback.
If you close Infuse, completely disconnect the trackpad from the iPad, and return to Infuse to restart playback, the lines reappear.
So I guess, for now, a workaround is to connect a Bluetooth trackpad to the iPad before playing the affected files.
