Using Infuse by itself vs. Infuse/Plex, Infuse/Emby, or Infuse/Jellyfin

I am curious with what advantages have been found with using Infuse (on its own) vs. Infuse combined with Plex, Emby, or Jellyfin.

The biggest advantage for me is that every time Plex or Emby or Jellyfin has a change or bug it doesn’t affect my use of Infuse. Infuse fills my requirements for media managment and I only have to maintain one app, not multiple apps with their associated plug-ins and possible additional subscription costs.

That is a great point. I have been drawn more to Infuse recently. I sort of like the idea of using SMB as way of connection instead of by way of Plex/Emby/JF. I have been a critic on the board that the one area I want to see is a layout/connection of ripped DVD extras with the movie or TV show. I found a workaround with separate directories to do this which is not ideal. What exciting plans or changes may we hope to see throughout 2025?

I tried using Infuse pure for a longer time and didn’t find anything long-term that I saw as an advantage. Instead, many disadvantages. Then I installed Jellyfin again.

You can keep an eye on this thread to see what’s on the short list of new features and fixes.

Can you share what you mean by “many disadvantages”

Bullseye, I did see the post about upcoming features, but not really looking at these as major additions or excitements. I was more asking about how James may want to see areas that he would like to see this project evolve. I am always curious about the following:

1.) Attachment of ripped bonus features/extras to movies and tv shows (on season and episode levels).

2.) Will this only be an IOS app or is there consideration for other platforms like Roku or Fire TV?

3.) Possible UI layout enhancements

4.) I would love to see a beautiful layout. For example, I love Seinfeld and there are tons of commentaries and deleted scenes on the dvd. I would love to open Season 1 of Seinfeld and be able to see on a screen:

Gag Reel file
Featurettes for the season.

Then if I click on episode 1-Pilot. I can play the episode or the episode with the commentary version, or the episode with “Notes About Nothing” which is on the DVD that has random facts about the episode.

That is what I am hoping for is a more immersive experience as you key in on a show or an episode.

it’s apple devices only, and i haven’t seen any desire to change that.

Can you elaborate on the ‘Extras’ work-around you employ? Creating a separate folder for extras never works unless I end up accepting a completely different movie title chosen by Infuse!

Aymondo, it is not the best workaround but I have a separate directories called “TV Show Extras” and “Movie Extras”. For TV Shows, I have a folder for name of show, then each season has its own folder where the ripped extras are housed. For example (with Seinfeld), I have it as Deleted Scenes-episode name, or Audio Commentary-episode name.

You always have to use “local metadata” instead of having Infuse fetch metatdata online, because if you don’t do that route it will replace your title name with just either “Seinfeld” or the name of the episode. It is a pain and you constantly have to watch so it doesn’t revert.

I really hope James can bring this feature to the forefront (been requested for so long.) I just want a page where you click on the episode and there is a layout of the individual ripped extras for the episode as well as ripped extras for the season all in 1 spot.

I used to use SMB but would get stuttering on larger files. Jellyfin sorted it so that was enough for me.

I do quite like that I can tweak artwork easily from my phone, and that if the Apple TV forces Infuse to delete all its data (which used to happen a lot) everything comes back as it was.
