User Switching Broken (tvOS 26.4)

Same issue here, I can fully reproduce it.

I’m running a local Jellyfin server, and I’ve had to turn off iCloud sync in Infuse completely because with it enabled things break even more. Even without iCloud sync, profile switching is still unreliable.

When switching Apple TV profiles, Infuse either stays on the previous user or ends up mixing libraries/shares between profiles. It doesn’t seem to properly respect the active tvOS profile anymore.

Other apps (like Swiftfin) work fine for me, although I suspect they might not rely on the native tvOS profile system in the same way.

Only reliable workaround so far is force quitting Infuse and restarting the Apple TV, then switching profiles before opening the app.

Everything worked perfectly before the update, so something clearly regressed here.

This is broken in multiple apps, so definitely a problem on Apple TVs side. Reported to Apple but they’re famously silent on that side, not sure if a developer life the Infuse team can get their attention.

After more investigation, this definitely appears to be an issue on Apple’s side. The APIs available to us here are limited and our initial tests/adjustments haven’t produced any positive results.

We’re working to file a ticket with Apple and include a small sample app to show the issue. Hopefully this will help them understand and resolve what is going on here. :crossed_fingers:

Please also include the related user profile switching issues mentioned in another thread, such as the top shelf not updating when switching users and the default audio output resetting after each switch.

We had already reported the top shelf issue before. Ironically, it actually seems to be switching in some cases in 26.4 so it seems like there were some changes added there recently.

Issue with Infuse Profiles and Content Separation

Since the introduction of the new feature allowing different profiles with separate configurations, I created a child account with access exclusively to children’s movies and cartoons. However, recently, everything has become mixed up: children now have access to all other movies. The profile configurations seem to have reverted to being global.

When I modify the settings for the child account in Infuse, the changes also apply to all other accounts, which defeats the purpose of having separate profiles.

Did you by chance read the 3 or 4 replies directly above yours?

Yes I did. Did you read by any chance that my children now have access to content they are not supposed to watch? We’ve been the ones to force us to use apple profiles and spent time to configure them on all Apple TV we had. So please some being condescending.

Just wanted to make sure you saw it was actively being worked on. Sometimes users go directly to the end of a thread first and post. Wasn’t being condescending, just pointing to the info that may help.

I don’t know if this may help with resolving the bug or at least the people experiencing it.

After the last Infuse update from a few days ago, here’s what typically happens.

  1. My wife watches a show before I do. After she’s done, she turns off the device (power button on the Apple TV remote).
  2. A few hours later, I turn on the TV again and log in with my profile. I see the on-screen notification from Infuse saying “switching to [my name]”. However, when I open the app, it still shows my wife’s profile. So it seems that Infuse correctly identifies the switch/selection of my profile but the bug still causes my wife’s profile to load.

I realized that in my case, the fastest mitigation for now is to actually turn on the TV and log with my wife’s profile, then switch to mine, Infuse correctly loads my profile. So one additional step versus going back and forth and attempting to force quit the app. Though I’m not sure if this will work for everyone since I did do a full reset after the 26.4 update (but before the last one (or two?) Infuse updates).

for now the best way is to switch from library to direct mode. There plex profile switching works without any issues

I’m using direct mode and the issue absolutely still fully exists.

switching plex profiles within the infuse app works 100% of the time. switch and refresh and it works every time

No it doesn’t work. It MIGHT work for you.

Issue is present in my case on plex home, I have my main Apple acxount and two local accounts. one for wife second for kids, in my case to actually fix it I have to switch account twice, for example

I was watching somethin

Then logged as child(can see main library)

Swap profile back to my one

Swap to children again and now library is correct.

Kids and wife got library mode I have direct and everything is affected.

It is beyond anything that apple cannot have something as basic as profiles. We have been waiting for it for years, then it was ok for how long, couple of months?

Same issue here, adding my diagnostic code to the pile:

DJMYQ

tvOS 26.4, infuse 8.4.2 (5608)

The in-app switching does work 100% of the time, but there’s a major caveat: when switching within the app, the home screen customizations for each profile aren’t preserved. Instead, new “default” rows are added, the order changes, and some row titles are incorrect.

That’s the main reason I’m not using it, because even having to restart my Apple TV after a failed profile switch is still much faster than having to redo the home screen layout every time.

I’m guessing you’re using the default layout if you’re not noticing any changes to the home screen.

I am having the same issue with Infuse on my TVOS 26.4 using Plex profiles. I am a new user and was so THRILLED how much better Infuse was than the Plex app but then I got to this issue which is a deal breaker for me. Anyone try to with TVOS 10.5 Beta? Ive been looking at the release notes for the past 2 betas and although there is no mention of fixing this issue, I think Im going to try it anyways

Ok update to BETA. Here is what seems to be working better.

1- Switching from an Apple Profile to another and having Infuse switch to the PLEX profile I set up in this Apple Profile

  • I can only do this successfully if I close Infuse totally before I switch to another Apple profile. I still have more testing to do but I did it 10 times and it worked. But this is only on 1 Apple TV. I have 5 more so after a few uses on the Apple TV I updated to BETA, Ill extend to a 2nd Apple TV

Heres what still does not work.

  1. I can’t switch Apple profiles while in Infuse.
  • WHen I do this, it does not switch to the PLEX profile I set up to the Apple profile I try to switch to
  • My home row on the HOME screen (the one that reflects the movies I’m watching when I go to the Infuse icon) shows the movies from the first infuse user

I know…very rough info but hope it leads to a road for a good workaround while we wait for a fix

My set up was as follows:

Deleted any settings in Infuse

Went to each Apple profile and disabled any SYNC in Infuse

Then set up each APple Profile with the server and the PLEX profile.

Completly closed Infuse

Go to the next Apple profile and start the process again.

I set up 4 Apple profiles this way. Before this, I could only get 2 profiles set up right. Once I got to the 3rd profile, all the profiles would bleed into each other

If anyone’s still struggling… The account switching bug causes settings to bleed across accounts, you absolutely have to disable iCloud Sync for now.

The only reliable way to switch:

  1. Pick any account in Apple’s user picker ← this is important, it flushes the state
  2. Pick the account you want, we’ll call it “User A”
  3. Delete and reinstall Infuse
  4. Open Infuse, it should sync your shares from iCloud by default
  5. Disable iCloud sync (Settings → Sync) ← important, it causes settings bleeding
  6. Check Settings → Shares - they might be messed up with bleeding shares from other users because of buggy switching - clean this up with shares for that particular user
  7. Disable Auto Backup in Settings → Sync → Backup, optionally hit Save Backup to remember good state
  8. Now, completely close Infuse: hold TV / Control Center Button, this brings app switcher, select Infuse window and swipe up
  9. Switch to User B
  10. Open Infuse, it should have fresh setup for the User B now, repeat steps 5-7

After both users are clean and tidy and iCloud Sync is disabled, the way to switch:

  • Close Infuse entirely (Step 8)
  • Switch to desired User B
  • Open Infuse again

If you get stuck, you need to flush the user:

  • Close Infuse entirely (Step 8)
  • Switch to User B
  • Switch to User A
  • Switch to User B again, this should flush the state
  • Now open Infuse - voila

These are my workarounds that seem to work, the most important thing is to turn off iCloud sync as it starts bleeding settings across accounts if you switch with Infuse running (wether on screen or in background). Infuse has to be killed entirely at the time of switching.

Hope that helps someone.

Did you manage toreport this bug? App is currently unusable if connected to plex, everything seems to be broken due to that, I do not want kids to have access to adult stuff
