Think about it: you have a 3- or 4-year-old child who needs to watch cartoons, so I created a dedicated children’s video library. To keep my child quiet while traveling, I chose to watch cartoons on an iPad. But I didn’t want my child to be exposed to violent and bloody movies, so I created a child user within infuse and added a password for my user to access them. This kind of scenario is very meaningful
Yeah same here. I’ve had to opt for a different app now because of this. Infuse should support user switching within the app, it’s falling behind on the competition as it is now.
It’s becoming really complicated to use Infuse this way with my family. If things keep going like this, I’ll probably be forced to look for a different app as well.
Why use Apple configuration files for multi-user features? Not for other reasons, but simply because this approach is the simplest—you only need to isolate iCloud data. Now, with AI support, feature development depends solely on developers’ willingness, with more time spent debugging bugs
@james there is quite a bit of discourse here, I think an update is warranted. Is Firecore staying the course and relying on Apple to provide a solution, or will a separate implementation for profiles be developed?
Yes @james whats your stand on this? i now run Plezy, Plex and Infuse in parallel. 2 weeks left in infuse subscription, then i will make a decision based on this thread. Just use Claude Code and make a good-enough version of native profiles, it cannot be so difficult can it?
I would love an official statement on whether this will be addressed as well. This will determine if Infuse is still right for my family. I had planned on two more lifetime subscriptions but now I am worried about this feature because it is non negotiable for the two households I want to purchase this for.
I realize the current situation is not ideal, but it is temporary. Apple is aware of this issue and I have no doubt it will be addressed. This could be a minor update like 26.5.1 or maybe 26.6. It seems like we’ll also see a beta of tvOS 27.0 next week which could also have changes in this area. Apple rarely shares their timeline for software changes with developers until after the change has already been implemented.
Apple profiles have many advantages compared to other approaches (iCloud syncing for multiple users, individualized settings & backups, user switching prompts upon wake, and more). These are things that cannot be replicated with an Infuse-only profile system, not to mention the potential confusion that adding yet another layer of profiles could have on users (Apple profiles > Infuse profiles > Plex profiles, etc…).
At the moment there are some things you can do to help mitigate issues and limit which items your younger family members haver access to.
- Add library categories or folders as favorites to provide everyone with easy access directly from the home screen.
- If you have content that is not age appropriate you can enable the Parental Controls feature in Infuse and limit which content ratings can be played without having to enter a PIN code (you can adjust whether a PIN code is required for every play or just once per session).
- Another parental control feature is the ability to set a PIN code to protect certain folders, favorites, or library categories (a PIN code can be added by long-pressing on a folder or category). This will prevent all browsing of those items without a PIN if you want to avoid them even seeing posters.
- For Plex servers connected in Direct Mode you can switch between Plex profiles by long-pressing on the Plex server icon which appears on the Home Screen.
Of course, we will continue to monitor this situation and I will provide any meaningful updates that we come across.

Some initial testing on tvOS 27.0 beta 1 is showing some encouraging results.
Going back and forth between profiles (both within Infuse and outside of Infuse) appears to be working again. It’s too early to say if this is fully solved, but it seems Apple has made at least a few changes here. Hopefully these same changes will make it back to tvOS 26 as well.
We’ll continue testing and monitoring the development of tvOS 26 and tvOS 27.
Note: While it’s possible this could in fact be fixed in the tvOS 27 beta, there may be other bugs present that affect other features. Please keep this in mind before installing pre-release software on your device.

Testing tvOS 27: user switching is still presenting the same problems.
I should note, the Apple TV tested here was updated from tvOS 18 directly to 27. I suppose it could be worth performing a factory restore if you are going from tvOS 26 to 27.
I could not test it yet, but please make sure to test it with other servers than plex. Namely emby.

Testing here on a second device going from 26 to 27 also shows positive results, but removing and reinstalling Infuse was required.
Since this is a system bug, having it fixed would apply to all connection types in Infuse.
Switching works reliably for me on Jellyfin with 27 beta; I upgraded from the 26 public beta.
Top Shelf still doesn’t work though.
