User Switching Broken (tvOS 26.4) - Update: Fix coming from Apple soon

Yes, we filed a report with Apple this morning and also included a sample app they can use to easily replicate the issue.

If any developers (or others) are interested in amplifying this message I have included details below.

Report Details

Apple - #FB22490168

Switching user profiles on tvOS 26.4 does not update the app’s per-user environment

Prerequisites:

  • Apple TV 4K (2022), tvOS 26.4 (23L243)
  • An Apple TV configured with two users: a default user and a secondary user

Test app behavior on launch:

  1. The app checks the Caches and tmp directories and creates unique test files if they are not present.
  2. The app checks UserDefaults and creates a unique test value if one is not present.
  3. The app prints the test file names and the UserDefaults value to both the logs and the UI.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Launch the app while the default user profile is active.
PID TIME Process Message

The app creates unique test records as expected.

  1. While the app is in the foreground, switch to the secondary user profile.

1629 10:32:02.823899+0400 UserManagementTest [TEST] DID RESIGN ACTIVE

Expected Result:
After switching to the secondary user profile, the relaunched app should see a different per-user environment:

  • different UserDefaults data
  • different contents of the Caches directory
  • different contents of the tmp directory

Actual Result:
The app relaunches, but UserDefaults and the Caches / tmp directories still contain data from the default user profile.

Notes:
The issue is intermittent. In some cases, profile switching works as expected.

Thank you for that.

I have noriced now thing, If i go out from the infuse and swap the profile on main tvos screen it will swap infuse profile.

Just acknowledging that I’m also experiencing this issue and it’s made our experience unusable.

User A and User B both have profiles on our ATV, both regularly switch.

User A logged in

User B arrives, switches to profile for User B

User A switches back to profile for User A, retains all of User B’s profile, share and username/login settings for the share.

Resetting hasn’t worked for us either, the issue persists - I agree with another user who said the profiles appear to bleed into one another.

I can fully replicate without intermittence, so we’re just avoiding switching profiles till this is resolved. It essentially makes having separate watch histories impossible.

It is frustrating, but nice to see some quick action from the developers here.

This is a reliable (although annoying) workaround so far.

Only force quitting the app and restarting the Apple TV through the system settings, then switching the profile on wake actually switches it properly.

Hi everyone,I’m experiencing annoying problems when switching users on Apple TV (switching tvOS profiles).Sometimes after changing user, the following happens:

  • Favorites from one user appear in the other user’s library (they get mixed up)

  • Posters / artwork change unexpectedly

  • The language of metadata and covers switches

It seems Infuse is not properly isolating the data when switching between tvOS users, causing favorites, artwork, and language settings to bleed between profiles. Is anyone else having this issue?
Is this a known bug? Any workarounds (like restarting the app, disabling iCloud sync, etc.)?Thanks!

I moved your post to a thread discussing this issue. Seems it’s an Apple problem.

I do not get one thing, why people refuse to use simplest way to bypass this issue:

Always leave the app/go back to main screen and THEN change your profile.

As long as you ate not inside infuse it will change the profile.

In worst case scenario log into previous user account, go back to main menu and swap into yours. It is annoying, but literally takes 5-10 seconds so not changing profile when bypass is so easy is ridiculous

maybe for you, I tried that many times and it didn’t work for me.

btw has anyone already tested if newest beta solves this?

Same here. Doesn’t work for me. Only force quitting and restarting actually changes the profile.

Same here on two Apple TVs. Following.

I’m experiencing the same symptoms on my Apple TV.

@Joloxx9 The “simplest way…” doesnt work for me either. It might work for you but it sounds like its not working for most

So, I’ve not experienced this bug anymore after I did two things:

  • disabling iCloud sync

  • Deleting a second media server instance in my profiles with the credentials of the other profile.

Turned out I had two server instances configured in Infused in both my profiles (I only have two) one for each user. After I deleted the one that shouldn’t be in that specific profile to begin with and sorted out the watched damage that was done it has not happened anymore so more than a week and counting.

Now, I am a 100% certain I did not configure both server instances in each profile. Especially because one of those is for my kid. how this happened I can only speculate maybe icloud sync messed up, idk.

Posting this just in the hopes that someone has the exact same problem and can fix it like this

I have separate shares set up for kids and adults. I have only the kid shares on my kid’s Apple TV/iCloud profile, and the adults have access to all shares. This works beautifully until after a couple of days, the adult profiles begin showing up on the kid Apple TV account with no user input. This is incredibly frustrating and has happened 3 or 4 times now. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

I moved your post to a currently running thread discussing the issue with profiles. It may shed some light on what you’re seeing.

I hated restarting the ATV each time: I’ve had some success with the following:

  • Force close the Infuse App
  • Wait approx 5 seconds
  • Switch profile

It’s really important to force close the app prior to the switch. But I can’t say it has 100% success because I’ve seen it fail.

Are there any updates on the bug report itself that we can get from mods here? As some users have said, this is a dealbreaker bug for some of us and it’s been a couple of months now.

This bug is up since beginning of the April, I guess nobody cares. I knew there will be a lot of issues if infuse picks this path instead of normal profiles.

Time to find another app or go back to plex, as kids profiles doesn’t work.

Honestly, I have similar thoughts, after just paying for a year. I get that this is a bug with Apple so Infuse can’t directly fix it, but Infuse COULD allow profiles natively in the app and not depend on Apple’s implementation.

Updating to tvOS 26.5 fixed the issue for me

This bug still exists on 26.5. Switch back and forth between two user with Infuse open and it might work once or twice but quickly gets stuck with one specific users watch state. In my case, this happens when using Emby within Infuse.
