User management tvOS26 vs. Jellyfin

Hi, can someone please shed some light on how multiple users work exactly? Whenever I switch to a new user on tvOS, infuse also says, that it is switching the user.

  • Can we use now different Jellyfin accounts per user (would be fantastic)
    If not:
  • What data/settings are set per user?
  • Does infuse sync per user?

And a general question:

  • Why do you have to setup a library incl. new scan per user?

Thanks!

I’m a little confused by this as well. I just trained my family to use Infuse, but now with tvOS I had to train them to use the new OS user picker. I need to setup Infuse again for each user? Even though I never set up Infuse to have separate users? Not complaining, just looking for confirmation.

You can disable the multiple user profile selector on tvOS and just use yours, otherwise each person will need to setup their own infuse.

That’s a good tip @munpip214. I hadn’t realized there was an easy way to just have one profile for all users.

That said, I agree with the others that this feature is confusing, somewhat broken, and it is not clear how to get results.

The Multiple User Profiles article has some details, but appears to have been written before the feature release and not really updated. It does mention the issue with ā€˜Top Shelf’ display updates, and it indirectly explains that Apple keeps the app from moving configuration (shares, etc.) between profiles, so I guess we do need to sign in to everything again from each user profile.

It would help to have actual documentation of any relevant settings in the Infuse App, and instructions on how to set it up correctly. It would also help to have explanations of any known bugs and any workarounds.

I’ve tried setting up multiple profiles, but the settings seem to ā€œleakā€ between profiles but not in a consistent way. Like another user on a different thread I find that some things seem to work if I force quit the app each time I switch user profiles. But my listed shares and the ā€œup-nextā€ titles do not match. This may be the same thing as the data mixing between profiles as has also been reported.

There are some suggestions that if you factory reset your AppleTV you can get things working, but I’d want a guarantee that this is a real solution that works for everyone before doing a 4-hour expedition of rebuilding the rest of the things installed and configured on my device. We don’t seem to have any real documented information on why profiles seem buggy, and whether it’s an Apple bug, a Firecore bug, and whether it has or can be fixed is not at all clear.
