I want to use multiple profiles on Infuse. Other than my own, there’s no need for them to connect to iCloud or other services. The main purpose of using Infuse is for viewing local video files that could be movies or TV shows. (Or other videos I have stored on my LAN NAS.)
So I would have my own profile (Call it Tango, like my user name here.) Then one for “House,” which would be the one my wife and I use when watching TV together. Then another, “Barn.” We have an old pig barn that’s been renovated into a workshop, a rec room, and a guest bedroom. This way the Barn account would work for family visiting us and staying in our barn.
What I do not see in profiles is how they work across devices. Can I use the House account I set up on Apple TV in our house on the Apple TV in the barn? And maybe on iOS devices, too? (So I could add one for my wife, so she could watch shows on her own and have them tracked for watched/unwatched - and watch them on her Mac, too?)
I don’t see anything in there that discusses multiple devices or if I can have the same multiple users on multiple devices.
I see it mentioning downloading data for uses from the iCloud, but it’s not clear if that means you have to have a user’s account using iCloud to share across devices or not.
Infuse currently uses Apple profiles to keep various libraries separate. On Apple TV, these can be linked to an iCloud ID (or not) and creating a separate profile would allow you to have completely separate libraries and layouts in Infuse. If you do have an iCloud ID linked then the library settings and layouts would stay in sync between devices.
If you have multiple profiles set up, the Apple TV can also prompt you to select a profile when the Apple TV wakes from sleep. This is enabled by default, but the setting can be found in Apple TV Settings > Profiles and Accounts > Choose Profile on Wake.
My main reason for wanting profiles would be to separate watched/unwatched data. I want to set up a profile for me, one for my wife and I to use for what we watch together, and one extra profile for the relatives that visit often, so we all have separate “tracking.” Will that work? Or does each profile need a separate Trakt account?
Not to be pushy - well, yeah, being pushy, since this is an issue I’ve been dealing with for a week now.
@james , could you take a look at this thread, please? I have two big issues, and you’ve solved one of them (and someone else telling me to upgrade my Mac install fixed the Mac sync issue). But there’s one MAJOR issue and it’s all that’s keeping me from moving to Infuse completely for viewing: One of my ATVs has read all the video files in my library, but will NOT classify them! It’s the same share on the same NAS that the others use (and I see that the NAS share info is synced on all the systems), but this ATV won’t categorize any videos. More details in that post.
That would be a big help, since that’s the ATV in our living room, that we use when watching TV together - and we can’t really find stuff on it, in Infuse, because it won’t categorize the files. Thanks!
Infuse has the ability to disable metadata fetching globally or on a folder-by-folder basis.
You may check to ensure none of these options have been enabled. If you find local metadata has been enabled globally or for a particular folder, you can switch it back and then clear the cached metadata in Infuse > Settings > Metadata & Artwork to have Infuse scan the files again.
That was off for this one ATV. It’s not something I would have intentionally have turned off, so I must have got to by accident. I turned it on and waited - then hit “Refresh Metadata.” Took a few minutes, the screensaver went on and I hit the remote button to turn it off and it had 117 movies and 295 TV episodes - so those were no longer 0! It’s working! I know it’ll take a while, but this will catch up and get things working!
Thank you!
The answers here help with my other threads. I’ll update those with answers this evening, when I’m at a “real” keyboard on my Mac, so others can find the answers.
There may still be a few things I want to try later, but this lets me get everything working so I can move off the other app that was running into issues frequently and move to Infuse. (Or back to Infuse.)
