Use external metadata in Infuse without adding media from that source (e.g. Emby/Plex)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently using Infuse with a direct cloud connection to pCloud. Streaming works great this way, but I’m running into ongoing issues with TV show metadata:

  • NFO files for shows are not reliably picked up by Infuse in my setup.

  • This leads to wrong matches or missing info, and I have to manually check and correct things for myself and my parents, which quickly adds up.

As a workaround, I tried using Emby as a metadata provider:

  • Idea: Connect Infuse to Emby, let Emby scan my library and provide clean metadata (TMDB IDs, seasons, episodes, etc.).

  • At the same time, keep Infuse connected directly to pCloud for streaming.

The problem:

Infuse then shows everything twice – once from the direct pCloud connection and once from Emby. What I actually want is to use only the metadata (posters, titles, overviews, season/episode info) from Emby, without having Emby’s media library appear as a separate source in the Infuse UI.

My feature request / idea:

It would be amazing if Infuse could use a server like Emby/Plex/Jellyfin (or even a custom tool) as a pure metadata source, without exposing its media library in the interface.

For example, a per-server option like:

  • “Use this source for metadata only (do not show its media library in Infuse)”

The benefits:

  • You can still stream directly from cloud storage (like pCloud) the way Infuse already does so well.

  • At the same time, metadata can be managed centrally by a server (Emby/Plex/Jellyfin or a custom metadata service).

  • No duplicate entries in Infuse and much less manual work, especially for large TV collections and setups where multiple households (e.g. my parents and I) share the same structure.

I’d really love to see a feature like this in the future – it would make Infuse even more powerful for people using cloud storage together with separate metadata servers. :folded_hands:

Thanks for reading!
