In conjunction with the upcoming extended support for media formats this would be a great future to have.
This has been a highly requested feature and is currently on the wish/todo list.
Quote from a XMBC dev i found a few minutes ago:
"there is USB on it but its device side only, its like a connector on iPhone/iPad"
So this rules a possible usb hard drive support out?
Personally I am keeping my $50 Apple TV V1 40GB version. This is about the going price on ebay after shipping and fees.
The older version complements the new version, via USB drive, as well as other features.
Maybe I remember this wrong but I am sure that last night when I did tethered boot it struck me that proximity of USB port on ATV2 and HDMI port were too close so couldn't have both cables connected at same time. If that is the case (and I'm not saying it is) how would it be possible to use an external hard drive and view stuff on the TV at the same time?
