Upgrading External Primary Storage

Hello All,

Thanks in advance for the help.

I use an external HDD as primary on my ATV. I’m seeing that in the next couple months it will be full as I sync all my media to it so I don’t need my Mac on…this promotes my family using the ATV when I am not around. In upgrading the drive could I just copy the old drive to the new drive and plug in the new drive to the ATV or do I have to move storage to internal, hook up the new drive and resync everything to the new drive through iTunes. I would like to avoid that if possible.

Thanks.

No ideas?

The best option would be to copy the old drive to the new using disk utility.

The guide below shows how this can be done with a dvd, but the same process would apply to a USB drive.

Thank you, as a new Mac convert I am still learning what the disk utility can do for me.
