Unusual jumping

I have something very unusual happening when I’m streaming a tv series or movie from my home server. I have a QNAP NAS that has all my movies and tv series content stored. This is then shared via plex media server and then played on my Apple TV. Recently every time I play content on my Apple TV using infuse 8, it gets to roughly 90-95% of tje show playing and then I see the buffering/loading wheel and after a few seconds it just jumps to the next movie or tv series. The workaround to fix this is as soon as I see the loading wheel, I must quickly press the back button to pull it out of the movie and then continue where I left off to play the remainder. I’m not quite sure what is causing this and it has probably only been doing it for a month.

Infuse pro 8.0.9 (5066)
TV OS 18.2.1 [22K160]
PlMS v1.41.2

I’m certainly no expert, but I do have a QNAP server, though it’s set up differently to yours, e.g. I don’t use Plex, just let the ATV 4k access the files directly. Have you been letting the QNAP do all the firmware and software updates it needs? I do, and I’ve also removed or disabled any QNAP apps that are not used and just take up memory, or that are no longer supported. Hope this helps.

Hello, yes I allow the NAS to do all updates. I only have the most essential programs running. I’m unsure if this is a qnap issue. I prefer to use Plex now as it finds all the metadata but it’s such a pain if I have to reinstall it as I lose all the metadata it has saved. I know you can save the folder with it all in there and I tried learning the terminal commands to save it but it didn’t work out. Anyhow, I’m wondering if something somewhere is going to sleep and that’s what’s causing this problem? There hasn’t been any settings that I’ve changed in the past month that can explain why this is happening.

I’m working on the assumption that it is a streaming and buffering issue. It’s a little concerning as I’ve played 6 GB movies without any issues and tonight the movie was only 1.8 GB and it did the buffering/loading wheel. I just ran a speed test on my wifi and my ethernet internet and I’m only achieving around 50 mbps, my speed should be 4 times that. I will contact my ISP and see if there’s anything they can do on thier end. I am also looking into the transcoding settings on Plex. Maybe it will just be better to go back to SMB share, i just really like the metadata saving.

I wonder if changing the streaming cache under Playback settings in Infuse from Auto to Memory Only or Legacy would help.

I had a check of that setting and it was set to Memory Only. Do you recommend me to change it to either Auto or Legacy? I will be watching a movie tonight, so I switched it to Auto for now and see what happens.

One other thing to check is the network settings in Plex Media Server and make sure your local network is entered in the LAN Network field (Settings → Network → LAN Network). If it is not there, or it is not correct, Plex May be limiting the bandwidth.

All the network settings are good. It did not buffer tonight, so hopefully the setting I adjusted earlier with the advice from @NC_Bullseye had resolved the issue. Thanks
