I can’t really figure this jailbraking out so where can I read a fully description about all this. I have an Apple TV2 with 4.4.2 and I can’t seem to get it working. I can’t figure out all that talk about versions and up/downgrade etc. etc…
Apple (regardless of it being an iPad, iPhone, Apple TV) makes use of a signing server to allow certain versions to be restored. Once Apple releases a new version into the wild they stop signing older versions. While Apple is signing a version you can actually cache it allowing you to downgrade to any version that you have the SHSH blob for. SHSH blobs are device and iOS version specific. Meaning an SHSH blob for 4.3 will not work for 4.4.4 and anything in between.
Now the next thing to understand is what is a tethered and untethered jailbreak. Virtually they are identical with one main differentiating factor and that is an untethered device (iPhone, iPad and Apple TV) would not require the assistance of a computer to be booted whereas a tethered jailbreak does. Looking at this article: http://theiphonewiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Firmware#Apple_TV_.282nd_generation.29 version 4.4.2 is only a tethered jailbreak which means there is no sense attempting to try and work around getting the SHSH blobs from your device to try and build a tethered jailbreak when the latest is (currently at the time of posting) a tethered jailbreak with an untethered option looking to be available later this week (information from www.pod2g.com).
In your case you simply need to download Seas0nPass and follow the steps in the article. You will be upgraded to the latest version but there is no sense staying on 4.4.2 anyways and you have no option but to get anything but the latest version.
