Unable To UN-TETHER 5.3,,,

I wanted to return to a tethered 5.3 by removing p0sixspwn’s fix.

Unfortuntately, “remove” tool did not work and even removing NITO entirely and rebooting did not work.

The only solution was to RE-JAILBREAK which is not a very convenient method of solving this issue.

Others experience the same?

p0sixspwn does not like to be uninstalled. only option is to rejailbreak.

Removing com.ih8sn0w-squiffy-winocm.p0sixspwn ...

Refusing to remove this package as this action will render the device unbootable. (probably...)

This makes little sense…

Why would the developers provide a “REMOVE” button that doesn’t actually remove the change?

Like an earlier poster reported, after doing a new jailbreak and returning to the original 5.3 tethered jailbreak, all video and audio worked perfectly on my now tethered 5.3.

well, the developer clearly didn’t provide a remove button as i posted. whatever app you are using to install the jailbreak is at fault here for misleading you with a remove button.

i imagine you could probably delete the untether folder in root over ssh and reboot then boot tethered but i’m not sure. i could probably test it since i need to do a fresh install anyways.

to untether without rejailbreaking:

ssh in with root

issue these commands:

rm -Rf /private/var/untether

rm /etc/launchd.conf

reboot

then boot tethered with seas0npass and ssh in again and issue these commands:

rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/com.ih8sn0w-squiffy-winocm.p0sixspwn.*

apt-get remove com.ih8sn0w-squiffy-winocm.p0sixspwn

it will say:

Removing com.ih8sn0w-squiffy-winocm.p0sixspwn …

so we can again issue the apt-get remove:

apt-get remove com.ih8sn0w-squiffy-winocm.p0sixspwn

but this time it will say:

Package com.ih8sn0w-squiffy-winocm.p0sixspwn is not installed, so not removed

this is not a clean way at all to do this, but atleast the untether is removed and you can later reinstall it when or if its updated without rejailbreaking.

I really appreciate all the time you put in to post this.

Since I stupidly installed the untethered fix on 9 ATV’s already, I’m hoping that an update from IH8snOw will solve the issue without having to rejailbrake or go through the steps you so clearly described.

KB@nitoTV confirmed that this CANNOT be removed.

uhm read above man. i posted instructions how to remove it.

The remove commands worked for me illness thanks dude kids were going mad with my personal atv everthing they were watching buffered lol

i only had to do the lasxt two commands dude

these ones

it will say:
