With the 8.4 release of identifying extras, TV specials are now classified as ‘extras’ and no longer have their episode name, synopsis, etc being displayed (the cover images are coming through, but nothing else). Is there some sort of middle ground allowing these to still be shown while offering the option for additional files that don’t align with TMDB? In some cases, I have both - official special episodes and also interviews and the like; the interviews make perfect sense in this new format, but the TMDB specials, not so much.
Can you post a picture showing how you have these files named and organized?
I’m happy to help, but I am not sure if am doing anything odd? I use Dropbox as my primary data storage; currently they are generally in a “specials” folder at the same level as the seasons:
Is it that I need to reorganise them (e.g. do the “specials” need to be in a “Season 0” folder rather than the “Specials” folder or something?)
That should straighten things out I believe. Specials should be in a “Season 00” folder.
I just created this topic and didn’t think anyone else had the same problem: Specials missing titles and descriptions
I’ll try naming the Specials folder “S00” and see what happens, although contrary to OP, I keep mine separate to avoid having to traverse extra directory levels:
+Root
++Series Season 1
+++Episodes
++Series Specials
+++Episodes
instead of
+Root
++Series
+++Season 1
++++Episodes
+++Specials
++++Episodes
Infuse is having some trouble with special episodes. They’ve always been inside their “Specials“ folder, their artwork is there and all, but they’re all missing their titles and descriptions…
In this example, I’ve named the files S00E02 (following the aired order) and S01E26 (following the absolute order) and the only change is that the file is either inside the season container or the specials container.
The title becomes either “Episode 2“ or “Episode 26“, but it has a generic artwork and blurb. All this even when TVDB has all the data.
All specials are the same across the board. It’s not related to any specific series or media.
Am I doing something wrong?
Just guessing but if they’re in a folder labeled “Specials” that may be part of it. For the S00 episodes label the folder “Season 00” instead.
Side note, Infuse doesn’t use TVDB anymore for metadata. Everything now comes from TMDB. ![]()
Thank you for your reply!
I hadn’t noticed the change from TVDB to TMDB. I’m sorry about that ![]()
Regarding the folder named “Season 00“, since I’m placing them all at the same root level, I cannot name every folder “Season 00“. Is it ok to name them “Series Name Season 00“? Maybe even “Series Name S00“?
For movie files, they’re all placed on the root folder (and not inside any subfolder) in order to prevent them being mistakenly recognized as series.
I hope I’m doing it correctly.
I can confirm it’s working now for me. Artwork, titles and blurbs are now shown correctly instead of generic titles and show descriptions.
Thank you very much, @NC_Bullseye!
Well… It did work for the example, but not for other series. I’m going to need a bit more help figuring out how to make right for all media.
EDIT: there are some cases where metadata fails to be loaded or shown correctly for any language I pick; and other cases where metadata for the selected language is missing and it doesn’t fall back on to a second language so it just shows generic episode names and descriptions (in one case TMDB didn’t have info on every episode of the same season so one half have descriptions and the other half doesn’t). While troubleshooting, I can’t seem to be able to enumerate which languages TMDB has available for the shows though, so I don’t know what to expect on Infuse’s side (and this wasn’t a problem with TVDB)
I also noticed this issue with the 8.4 update. My library uses Specials as the folder name, and now the episodes inside are tucked away in the new Extras section (with local artwork still working but not local NFO anymore). I can confirm that renaming it to Season 00 restores the previous behavior of the dedicated Specials season, but I believe changing it across my whole library would break some stuff… Would it be possible to simply recognize the Specials folder name for the Specials season instead of putting them in Extras? In my mind, those are separate and I do have a TV show with a Specials folder for an actual special episode, and an Extras folder for a bonus video (a short 5 min trailer with bonus content).
Today’s 8.4.2 update improves handling of ‘Specials’ folders. ![]()
Thank you! I can confirm the Specials folder is now properly recognized and the episodes inside are shown in the Specials season. However, it seems that having both a Specials folder and a folder for extras (Extras or Trailers for example) doesn’t work. The new Extras section doesn’t appear: the file is just categorized as an Other type with some random metadata pulled from TMDB (or embedded metadata if the option is selected). I tested to make sure by moving my extra to a TV show without a Specials folder/season and it works: the file is shown in the Extras section for that TV show.
Can you post an image showing how your files are named/organized and also show how things are appearing in Infuse?
Also, can you confirm where these files are being stored? Are they synced files (local on iOS/Mac) or being streamed from another source?
Sure. My files are stored on an an HDD (plugged-in to a Mac mini) which is shared on my local network. The folder is organized as such:

And here is what it looks like in Infuse. The Extras section doesn’t appear.
If I rename the Specials folder to Season 00, it works fine:
Same if I move the Extras folder to a TV Show without a Specials folder/season:
