Trying Infuse

Currently testing Infuse Pro on Apple TV 4K, and while the app has potential, it’s disappointing to see that highly requested features like this one haven’t been implemented in 7 years. Instead, the developers seem to prioritize niche features like support for a pair of goggles hardly anyone is interested in. I’m on the trial for now, but I’m not willing to pay for a product that ignores its community’s voice. Features that matter should come first.

Trying out Infuse Pro on Apple TV 4K, and it’s frustrating to see how long some basic, highly requested features have been ignored—years, apparently. Instead, the focus seems to be on flashy, unnecessary additions that no one really asked for. I’m still on the trial, but unless priorities change and community feedback is actually heard, I won’t be spending a cent on this.

I’m pretty sure that Vision was not very heavy lifting as most of it can be ported from iPadOS with some tweaking. All the backend and processing was already implemented. Besides that they spent several months working on a iOS/tvos facelift that was a heavily requested feature. Infuse has one of the most active developments of any app since I have been using it almost ten years ago. See the release notes: Infuse Release Notes | Firecore

There are thousands of suggested features but only so many can be done at a time. Everyone has their favorite that they can’t believe hasn’t been done. In case you don’t know, the size of Firecore team is only like ten people compared to the 100 or more that plex or vlc has.

As you mention I believe fireCore are quite a small team, things may have changed since I posted my memories of what James mentioned was the staff size back in the day … Changes in priorities - #9 by remotevisitor

Yes.
Apple mugg teven stop development of vision PRO at the end of this year.
I am in the same situation. I am soon at the end of My first trial year and i thoughr the atv features cinnectwd ro plex would have come linjer than this so i will go back to plex probably

This is my first post on this forum and I agree almost entirely with @29axe except that I have just paid my first 15 months.

WHY DID I PAY?
Because it’s a very pleasant experience to switch from a macOS/Finder/VLC and projector/android interface to a solution like macOS and Apple TV/Infuse.

BUT WHY THIS STRANGE FEELING?
If I’ve just created an account on the forum, it’s because I was very surprised by 2 things:

  1. The absence of basic functionalities (please tell me if I’m wrong) and the presence of bugs that I can’t explain and that create an unpleasant feeling about the app and its development.

Just two examples:
Bugs on mac

  • scrolling in the library lags a lot (with my M1PRO)
  • the home screean top bar disappears during navigation

Missing functionalities

  • inability to edit metadata yourself
  • multi-selection for “Mark as Watched”

2 The existence of a forum with many user suggestions that seem to be ignored or take an incredible amount of time to integrate.

I don’t quite understand the approach and I don’t really know the situation of the development team.
We’re talking about ten (full-time?) people, which isn’t a lot for a single multi-platform app? The Mac app is fairly recent, so bugs are normal?
I’d appreciate more listening to users and more transparency about their working conditions and way of working.

All this means that I have a paradoxical relationship with infuse, which I see as a fragile beauty.
I hope her beauty endures and her health improves!

That’s hilariously disingenuous. Basically every other app has this feature. Plex, Netflix, Disney+, Prime, Crave, HBO, Paramount+. It’s so basic that basically every other company has went “Yep, we need this in our app”

I know they have larger teams, but that doesn’t matter. This is fundamental to the user experience. Without it, they will alienate potential customers, like me, from buying it. Way more people care about a simple to use interface, than the Vision Pro, just based on the number of people who even own the Vision Pro.
