I have a Apple TV 2 running 5.0 (iOS 5.1). I apparently do not have the SHSH backed up. I lost power and am now trying to reboot using the Seas0nPass tether boot feature. When the process is done, Seas0nPass reports success, but the Apple TV displays a black screen, then no signal and eventually gives the restore in iTunes screen. I have repeated this many times.
Should Seas0nPass still be able to boot into version 5.0 (iOS 5.1)? Is it possible the boot is failing because I failed to upgrade to 5.0.1 (iOS 5.1.1) prior to losing power?
When you do the tethered boot you are required to have the power connected and not disconnect it. I am sure you are aware of this I just want to make sure.
Yes, I have the AC connected when attempting to boot. After many many attempts, I finally had to do a full restore and re-jailbreak. After that, it worked fine.
I guess this will all be moot in a few days when the untethered jailbreak is released. I was just hoping someone in the know would chime in on these two general issues:
Does Apple have to still be signing the version of firmware installed in order to perform the tethered boot?
Does the version of Seasonpass used to tether boot have to be the same that was used to perform the jailbreak?
The answer to 1) is definitely no. It is the earlier jailbreaking stage where you flash the firmware that needs Apple to still be signing the release.
Regarding 2) as far as I know you just need a version of SeasonPass that is no older than the one that did the jailbreak. You do, however, need some of the files that are created during the “create ipsw” phase of the jailbreak to be present which become relevant if you want to jailbreak on one machine and tether boot on another.
Yes, I was definitely tetherbooting from a different machine, which explains the problem. It would be nice if Seasonpass was more verbose - it kept telling me SUCCESS! with each attempt. Oh well. It’s all moot now with the new untethered jailbreak.
