This folder structure is designed for TVDB, but Infuse only uses TMDB. Unfortunately, TMDB doesn’t have a very good catalog for Tom and Jerry.

When I do manual search in the app, it doesn’t show up either. I can find some on the TMDB website.

Even if you get this to work, TMDB doesn’t seem to have enough data to make this work.

Per TMDB, old cartoons are not TV series, but shorts (Movies) — presumably as they were first shown in theaters.

You name the files like you name movies — in this case, “Purr-Chance to Dream (1967)”.

If your are unable to find all your ”episodes” on TMDB in this fashion, perhaps you’d want to share your enthusiasm for the show by contributing to TMDB’s database and thereby allow Infuse to not only correctly recognize your own collection items, but also anyone else who comes after that shares your tastes.

If that’s too much effort, just throw all the Tom and Jerry shows in a folder and select “use local metadata” and perhaps also remove the folder from the library.

I’m trying to add a TV for this collection to TMDB, but I guess they don’t want that per their so called “rules”?

TVDB has it orgnized very nicely.

Why are they “movies”? It doesn’t make any sense. They have episode orders.

Oh. Infuse not finding anything while the website did is possibly related to Infuse telling TMDB it was looking for a TV series, and not a movie, given the file name format.

I don’t know if that’s actually how the API works … just a guess. I do know the web search makes no distinctions (until after the results are in).

I just followed TMDB naming convention. The problem is my library now is a pile of trash with Tom and Jerry littered all over the place. They don’t even have collection for them. There is no way for me to watch Tom and Jerry in a serial fasion.

I don’t care how their rule/contribution/scraping works. I only care about what will work in Infuse, which currently it doesn’t even if I spend 4 hours contributing to their database.

I didn’t ask them to add hundrends of episods manually, I am asking the staff to scrape TVDB in the backend. I don’t have admin access to their database.

Yup, that will happen. :confused:

Nope. Because they only allow collections for films that are direct sequels (with the noted exception of all James Bond Films) — they only support extended-universe sort of things through tags.

You can create a custom collection in Infuse; and order the titles as you wish. It’s a bit tedious, but the only available Library option currently.

Edit to add:

The other suggestion I made above might be suit you better — just move them all into a folder that isn’t part of the library, and access them via the files browser.

That will make them easy to watch in sequence (if you restore the files TVDB year/episode# filenames for sorting purposes).

I thought about it, then I discovered that Infuse still doesn’t support “select all” during multi select. I’m not clicking 300 times to add them all.

Hence the new feature request:

I have concluded that what you suggested is the only option, which is not ideal because it wouldn’t sync with trakt anymore.

I don’t use trakt but surprisingly enough Infuse doesn’t require files accessed through the folders browser to be included in the library for their watched-status to be updated and displayed.

I can’t test if the watched-status of non-library titles is synced to other devices over iCloud, but it might be worth looking at if this is a potential use case.

I’ve watched several series that weren’t yet added to my library when my devices went off-line, and it was pretty easy keeping track where I was because their watched statuses (on the details pages) kept up.

The problem is, using TVDB metadata structure, Infuse is not able to match with TMDB “shorts”, so it’s local only.

Local watch history is synced across device as long as you don’t do a library rebuild.

Interestingly, Trakt is aware of this issue for Tom and Jerry. It’s top of the list on Trakt’s TMDB/TVDB data comparison page.

True. The series I mentioned don’t have any metadata (as they never matched with anything at TMDB) since I hadn’t yet imported the episodes into Infuse (or pre-processed them in Kodi on my PC) before disconnecting my devices from the internet.

It’s not as pretty without the posters, but everything’s still easy enough to access.

Can someone please confirm how Plex and other media servers handle metadata sources?

The thing with TVDB is that it’s not perfect either, it has its own set of problems, that’s why Infuse moved to TMDB in the first place.

I’m just hoping for some backward compatibility for missing data that can’t be ported to TMDB.

Again, using Trakt as metadata provider may fix most of those issues and add more Trakt integrations.
