I’m going to sell an APTV2 running 5.3 but obviously the person who buys the box will need SP to re-boot it up. Can they use SP to boot up the device on their side or or do they need APSW that I used? Just want to make sure things go as smootly as possible…
They will need SP not for the jailbreak, but for to download and patch the .ipsw.
They will have to start up SP and right-click the create ipsw and select 5.3
When itunes starts up they can cancel at that point (don’t let it restore the ATV)
After canceling restore their seasonpass should now allow them to tether.
If you want to make sure this works you can try it on a different computer computer. (or delete/rename the ipsw on yours)
What if the current version is 5.2.1 on the aptv2? I guess really I should just try this on a second computer as you suggested. Again I would assume a tethered boot works on just about any version…

Ok I’ve just installed SP on a new laptop and ran it, but the tethered boot logo is grey. So I assume I would have to create a IPSW first before it would become available. Is there anyway I can just drop the IPSW files into the Seas0nspass folder for it to work? Or I guess the other method is create the IPSW then when it starts to boot up iTunes I just hit cacel where after the Boot funciton should be present. Does that sound right?

The process is the same whether it’s 5.3 or 5.2.1.

Yes, the working behind this is it takes apple’s standard ipsw and inserts your signed info and the jailbrreak code into it, since the ATV is already jailbroken that file is all that is needed to tether it.

I’ve tried the copying of the finished files from my computer to corresponding directories of a new computer and it just didn’t work.
Is there anyway I can just drop the IPSW files into the Seas0nspass folder for it to work?
The ONLY file I could copy between the two computers and it still work was the original, unaltered ipsw, I did this because I have a slow connection and it was taking forever to download. I copied that file to the seasonpass\download folder and when I then clicked the “create ipsw”, seasonpass found it right away and began the creatioon of the new ipsw.
OK CONFIRMED this works great!
Here’s what I did. Installed the newest SP that is for the 5.3 JB, the apple TV I’m doing this with has the latest 5.3 also. Then hit create IPSW, it’ll ask you hook up your device. After doing so it found it and started to create all the files needed. After 5 min or so it then asked to put my APTV into DFU mode. Obviously at this point I did not chose to do as it’s all ready Jailbroken, hit CANCEL. Next I disconected the micro cable and booted everthying up again. Hit right click on boot tethered as it’s finally not greyed out. Selected 5.3 10BB809 and followed the steps to connect the APTV to it and went into DFU mode. Got the correct message saying your boot was successful and unpluged the micro USB cable and inserted the HDMI. BOOM the JB was all fine and all the settings are perfectly intached. Thanks guys!
