Sorry if this is stupidly obvious to others but I just need clarification. You know you’re getting older when you start to not entirely grasp all the technical changes happening.
I have a Synology NAS DS224+ and use Infuse with Apple devices. I’ve used Infuse since the beginning and absolutely love it. The NAS is only used as a storage device - I don’t use it for CCTV cameras, or hosting anything).
I’ve just gone to update the DSM/OS for the Synology to see that they’ve removed support for 265 codec.
Before I update I just wanted to check that this change won’t impact me will it? Infuse/aTV does the transcoding, not the Synology? I’ll still be able to stream all the files I have and watch them on the ipad, phone and aTV?
That’s right, it won’t affect you, nothing to worry about
They’re killing support for H265 in their Video Station app, but since you’re not using this app, it’s not an issue for you. As you’re just using the Synology as a file server, you can store any files on it in any format; it’s up to Infuse as to whether it can play them.
And to clarify, Infuse is not ‘transcoding’ (this means converting the video file to another format as you play it). Infuse just accesses the files on your Synology, and plays them ‘directly’ - neither the Synology nor Infuse is transcoding or converting anything.
