Support Jellyfin remote access limits

I think the big question is can Infuse play a transcoded stream? I know that they’re 100% direct play and maybe playing a transcoded stream is completely different, requiring a significant change to their player?

The OP is just asking if Infuse can just use what it sounds like is a different endpoint in Jellyfin that will provide a potentially transcoded stream from the server. That might be a really simple change, although I’m guessing because it hasn’t been implemented yet that it’s a lot more complicated on the player side.

maybe you are mis-understanding what is being discussed
we’re not asking for infuse to do any transcoding or get involved in the transcoding process - it is done entirely server side and whether you are playing locally or remotely.

so we are simply asking for infuse to correctly tell jellyfin if it is local or remote - it is not doing that.

infuse wouldn’t know if it’s transcoded or not, it’s simply receiving the stream from the server.
it also doesn’t need to know if it is or isn’t, it makes zero difference to the playback experience.

it probably is a really simple change, there is just zero desire (it would appear) from anyone at infuse to either understand or implement such a change. there is plenty desire to add other features that seemingly have no level of suggestion support.

The client would never transcode. No one will ever ask for that because there would be no point, so there is nothing to misunderstand in that regard. The only thing ever being discussed is server-side transcoding, which is the same thing in practice as your requested bitrate limit.

i can only repeat, no-one is asking for infuse to support transcoding.
so i don’t see the point of your initial and later posts.

for you to then suggest i don’t understand the issue when it was me that made the initial post (That was then subsequently moved to a suggestion incorrectly) seems a bizarre thing to say, which makes me think you’re just trolling.

the issue is that infuse is not using the jellyfin API correctly - as confirmed by a jellyfin dev.
the confusion is people continually incorrectly assuming (including the mod and the infuse dev it would seem) that the request is that infuse to support transcoding - WHICH IT IS NOT.

Maybe a better way to phrase the request - can Infuse support the play of transcoded content? That’s really the ask here…

i don’t think so, as the word “transcoding” can only make people think that is what is being asked.
the entire post really has nothing to do with transcoding. it’s just about infuse telling jellying whether it is local or remote. currently it tells jellyfin it’s always local, even when it isn’t.

Got me. Everyone here is wrong except you. Have a good day, chenks.

This has to be the most absurd topic I have ever encountered on a software support forum. The amount of trolling and gaslighting on display is genuinely hard to comprehend. Everyone involved clearly understands what the issue is and what would be required to resolve it, yet we collectively pretend otherwise. Which leaves only one plausible conclusion: this feature/suggestion/bug is not being blocked for technical reasons at all, but for some unstated, non-technical reason that everyone silently acknowledges and no one is willing to name.

no, you are wrong, and you’re simply trolling. have a good year.

no, everyone clearly doesn’t understand the issue, if they did this thread wouldn’t have been moved to suggestions by the mod.

there is one plausible conclusion, no-one at infuse cares about the bug, and has no desire to do anything about it. as mentioned earlier in the thread, the jellyfin direct integration is half-assed at best.

what unstated, non-technical reason that everyone silently acknowledges and no one is willing to name are you suggesting other than no desire to do anything about it?

This horse has sufficiently been beaten to mush. If you wish to continue this take it to PMs please.

@chenks Ok I understand what you’re saying. Yes, we are in agreement and I think a lot of people are getting caught up in esoterics—no one wants Infuse to transcode. We want Infuse to respect the JF server settings and be a 1:1 conduit. Why Infuse devs cant/wont develop a simple client that acts as a true direct player to the server is the real head scratcher.

Edited to add: I don’t think this is a “bug.” Plenty of other clients support this very basic, long-standing feature. Infuse devs are intentionally ignoring this.

Is there a good Jellyfin client for apple TV that has this? Idealy I would like one with subtitle reading using apples screen reader, but I don’t think any client has that for now.

It really is crazy that this hasn’t been handled yet. While I do have Infuse Pro via family sharing, this alone making it unusable remotely is grounds for me to consider switching to something else, and encouraging others to do the same, other clients for tvOS currently in development look promising enough. A (likely) one-line change is all that is required, and it would fix the one and only problem I (currently) have with Infuse. Insane. I really do wish this would be resolved.
