Hello there
I have a question why the subtitle doesn’t dim when the tv is hardwired and local? My Mac is hardwired and the subtitle doesn’t dim too.
The subtitle dims when they’re using the wifi.
Hardwired and remote streaming appears to be ok.
I use the Plex server on my NAS
Bug?

A post was split to a new topic: Subtitle adjustments missing

Hi Infuse team,

I’m encountering a frustrating issue with forced subtitles when watching HDR content on my Apple TV 4K 2nd gen (paired with an OLED display). I pay and am using the latest version of Infuse Pro, and I really enjoy the app — but this issue has become quite distracting.
Specifically:

*When forced subtitles (e.g., for foreign-language dialogue) appear, they are blindingly white in HDR. This is very harsh and distracting on OLED screens, where contrast is extreme.
These forced subs appear automatically, which is great, but the problem is that:

  • They do not show up as a selectable track — the subtitle menu shows “None” selected.
  • This prevents the right-hand styling panel from opening (text size, colour, transparency, etc).
  • Even if I select a full subtitle track (e.g., English) and set it to a styled grey/transparent look, the forced subtitles still display separately and brightly on top, with no styling applied.

There seems to be no way to access or control how forced subtitles are rendered — unlike full subtitle tracks, where styling works well.

What I’ve Tried:

  • Customising Apple TV’s system subtitle style (no effect).
  • Manually selecting a full English subtitle track and setting styling (does not override forced sub rendering).
  • Looking for a “forced subtitles” toggle or styling option in Infuse settings — none available.

Request:
Could you please consider adding one or more of the following:

  1. A setting to control forced subtitle appearance (colour, size, transparency).
  2. The ability to style forced subtitles using the Apple TV subtitle styling engine.
  3. An option to disable or override forced subtitles entirely, if desired.

This issue makes HDR content hard to enjoy comfortably.

Just adding a bit more detail:

  • tvOS version: 18.5
  • Infuse Pro version: 8.1.6 (5193)
  • Apple TV model: Apple TV 4K 2nd gen
  • Playback setup: Files streamed from a Mac mini server Sequoia 15.5 (Infuse works charmingly with it — it’s been incredibly smooth and reliable).

I also want to say that Infuse is honestly my favourite media app — it’s beautifully designed, performs exceptionally well, and integrates seamlessly with my Mac mini setup. This subtitle brightness issue is the only downside I’ve encountered thus-far, and I’d love to see it improved.

Thanks again for all the brilliant work!

The “forced subtitle” is already burnt-in on the picture, ie foreign film subtitles.

+1

Here’s a comparison of same scene in HDR and SDR with SRT subtitles. It becomes distracting in darker scenes.

HDR on top and SDR below

An option to adjust the subtitle brightness for HDR and DoVi videos is now available in Infuse 8.2.

Yes! Finally! I tried putting on a dark movie (The Dark Knight is always a good testing movie!) and subtitle brightness absolutely much better with this option. I turned down subtitles to 75% and that feels a lot more comfortable for HDR movies. It’s also great that it only applies to HDR subs.
Thank you <3

(Kind of wish Apple would follow now with their own subtitles in other streaming apps, but that’s an Apple thing to fix and not an Infuse thing :P)

This is an amazing feature! Thank you Firecore team!

This is great, congrats!!
