Struggling with Infuse

Hi all,

I’m new to Infuse Pro. I’ve exchanged my fire TV to an Apple 4K and purchased Infuse Pro. I have an external HD plugged to my fritz!box 7590 which acts as a NAS. I’m struggling with some topics:

  1. I’ve added the Movie folder (where all movie files are stored in) as a favourite on my start screen as well as the created collections, but in Infuse on iPad they don’t appear even if synch is on and (seems to be) actual.
  2. I would like to see Genres on the startpage, but the list is completely empty. Why? All files seems to have their metadata received, so I see for most of the movies the correct artwork and it weren’t so many files I had to correct.
  3. Some files are identically tagged, mostly it is the file following the correct tagged file which is wrong. That happens randomly after switching on Infuse on ATV.

Some assistance would be great as I currently don’t know if I should like that app or not.

Brgds

Stephan

Welcome to the forum!

Have you had a chance to go through the step by step instructions in the users guides?

If you’re seeing different results on your iPad than you are your ATV it may be many things but make sure that your log in is correct on both.

What iOS and tvOS version numbers are you running?

EDIT TO ADD: Also what protocol are you using to connect to your server with? FTP, SMB, DLNA, UPnP etc.

Hi, thanks a lot. I don’t know the current version, but I updated iOS on all Apple devices just two days ago. The guide I’ve read but I can’t find answers to my questions. The files are not all named as reommended but even though most of them had been tagged correctly. All other steps I understood and followed. Currently the biggest questions is why the list sorted by genres is completely empty?
I connect to NAS via SMB as far as I know. Keep in mind that the solution via fritz!box is not a real NAS like Synology and Co.

Can you provide a full screen cap of the Settings > Library page for both?

The Library page may show some info that will help answer your questions.

Will do, but currently I’m a little bit puzzled. After I have added 2 new movies, I wasn’t able to reach my movie folder via ATV anymore (neither with Infuse nor with VLC). I had to do a general reindexing of the NAS and afterwards all entries had been gone (incl. collections). Also on iPad, so synchronization seems to work but in this case in the wrong way. I now have to correct metadates again where necessary and setup again the collections, so at least 2hrs work. When this is done, I will provide the requested screenshots.
Currently I’m not sure if it was a wise decision to switch to ATV and Infuse instead of keeping the Fire TV and Kodi, which hasn’t such cool features as Infuse, but worked properly over years. But it might not necessarily be a problem with Infuse but with ATV and fritz!box NAS in general. We’ll see.

Ok, I’ve checked again the instructions carefully and obviously something is not working correctly at my end. I set up a share, I mark the folder where all my movies are stored in as favourite and see it on the start screen. But in the library settings, this folder doesn’t show up opposite to the instructions. Obviously, the reason I don’t see any genres is because the library was and is empty. What am I doing wrong here?

On the Apple TV, click on the gear in the upper right of the home screen.

Under Network, click on Library.

Post a screen cap of that screen please. :+1:

All empty, no folder to choose from.

Okay, let’s look at another screen.

On the Apple TV, click on the gear in the upper right of the home screen.

Under Network, click on Shares.

Post a screen cap of that screen please.

Then do a screen cap of the edit share screen.

I was wrong yesterday, it is not SMB obviously

That’s the problem. With UPnP/ DLNA you don’t get the library functions.

If you delete that share and start over adding the new one as SMB then you should have better luck.

Ahh, now it looks different. :innocent:
The app is now scanning the files, will take some time. Many thanks for the moment, I guess that will solve my other issues as well. Great support! :+1:

BTW, I know that having a NAS via a WLAN router is not an elegant solution. Would it be worth the effort to use a Raspberry with e.g. Plex instead if you just want to stream your movies and music or is my current solution fine for that? Would it make a difference?

I’d say run what you have and see if it meets your needs. I run off a Synology NAS and no plex or other server software and Infuse suits my use just fine.

I’d suggest going over some of the file names if they give you problems and naming them to the required format but even if you don’t as long as their in a movie format you can edit and search for the correct match on TMDB.
