Hello. What are the chances of having support for .strm
files or some other similar direct links format? Currently I keep pasting the URL’s to my iPhone from my Cloud storage but oh my, it takes ages to get my collection through to Infuse like that
Sorry for reviving an old thread, but this could be very useful with Google Drive. Instead of streaming the original file it would be nice to stream the transcoded videos in variable bitrate (360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p) depending on network conditions.
It would be great to add compatibility to play strm files, so that way we could play files from VOD services.
I can’t agree with you more.
When titles are saved to your library through Kodi, they get added as .strm files – support for this will allow streaming remotely from Kodi.
I really hope Infuse can support STRM.

as long as senplayer and emby official player have already support strm video playback record return, hopefully infuse will achieve this step soon cause it’s really common right now.
I moved your post to a currently running suggestion thread requesting this feature.

STRM file support has been added in today’s 8.1 update.
How do you do that?
@james is it possible to change the metadata and add subtitles to an STRM file like you can with an mkv or mp4 file? In other words, if I put an srt file with the same name as the STRM, a logo.png or fanart.jpg in the same folder, will that add subtitles to the movie and change the metadata to the one I’ve chosen?
Yes, the name of the STRM file would be used for metadata matching in Infuse and can be overridden just like a normal video file. The name of the video file linked inside the STRM file has no impact on metadata.
For example, if you had these files
Moana 2 (2024).strm
Moana 2 (2024).jpg
Moana 2 (2024).srt
And the STRM file included this link
https://my-server.com/videos/movies/Inception-2010.mkv
Infuse would pull metadata for Moana 2 from TMDB and display your local poster as the artwork. The SRT subtitles would be available during playback.
This is a game changer for Infuse! Thank you so much!
I tried using this for YouTube full movies like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qi2XeXQWRx4. But it doesn’t seem to work. Is this supported at all?
The link inside the file would need to be a direct link to an actual video. Links to web pages or YouTube pages won’t work.
OK. thanks James. Would be a great addition tho..
I see strm files feature has been added and I tried the YouTube link and I see it is not for that purpose.
I tried to think of a reason to have a strm file and can’t find one. So I was wondering if someone would give a couple reasons for using these.
I’m looking for a way to get more out of my infuse app and since this feature has been added, there must be a use for it.
Thanks
Well. I now have a file that is on a server (somewhere in the world, so not local server).
The file plays fine when using VLC, but in Infuse it won’t play. Error occurred. Why??
This is the file: https://****_01.****s.com/dl/e714e8b0a-UtfmDzuxNr_U16_dSPNa_s6aUmjde2XOt-m8VfqJ-Y7SqQBO5n-YOAxkSIqbKV2Uo5GF8vdnSgqOZRBXDkLQAA7iwQdle1TyeqoiCKdNTYbmEJSZ33t9eeK-mE6oSGWTLmykrazZIEGQEF5PNxVMpnHuBKY6MAZnSFe9F2blfBEcz5Iw8sh6n3pFIOKbl0WEjBMYMre3rysb5HEPb2Hg/White.Collar.S05E03.HDTV.x264-2HD.mp4
PS. I removed the exact server name. If James wants to test it, I can sent link in PM.
I even did now exactly as written in the manual, using inception-2010.mkv.
But also this doesn’t work.
This is the link that works perfectly in VLC, but not in infuse.

What is the use of it, if it doesn’t work. I am struggling with this for over 48 hours now… Frustrating.
Tried, on ATV, iPad, iPhone, Mac Studio… none works.
Movie shows up with poster etc. but on playing, I get: Not a valid URL. What’s wrong with the url. Maybe the use of a port? But if that is the problem, then this feature is of no use.
