Streaming

Hi there!

I have an old Popcorn Hour A110 which I have been using for a long time now, but gut the IOS/Apple bug and bought the 2nd generation (black) aTV at release with a view to use as a replacement to the PCH. So far though, I have been unable to find a way of streaming video files from an external storage device connected to my PC (Windows 7) via USB2. The PCH does this fine as it recognises a shortcut created on the PC’s hard drive, but I cannot get the aTV2 to see the shortcut, or more importantly this external USB hard drive.

Anyone got any pointers / suggestions, or is it just not possible to do this? I don’t mind what application I use to view the video through the aTV2 - I just want to see it!

Thanks in advance for any assistance…

Regards, NickW

Instead of using a shortcut in your PC you may try adding a Favorite on the AppleTV. Doing this will allow you to add a link to any folder on your PC to the AppleTV’s main menu.

More details on setting up Favorites can be found here: http://support.firecore.com/entries/20322512-media-player

Thansk James - seems a good tip for when you can see the folder or files you want, which I was unaware of, but the issue I have is I cannot access the USB drive attached to the PC from the aTV2, and want to know how I can? It is showing in directory as a separate drive letter, but aTV2 does not see/show it when I try to find it.
