Streaming Cache (64GB vs 128GB)

Hi,

I have an Apple TV 4K 64GB (2022). With “Streaming Cache” set to “Auto,” most files are pre-cached during playback. However, when a file exceeds the available storage, playback stops once the pre-cached data runs out, requiring me to exit and restart. Switching to “Memory Only” has helped, but I have a couple of questions about upgrading to the 128GB model:

Cache capacity — Will Infuse utilize all available storage on the 128GB model? For example, if a file is 90GB and space permits, will “Auto” pre-cache the entire file, or is there a cap?

SSD wear — If Infuse does cache large files in full, could this cause unnecessary wear on the SSD? Should I consider AppleCare+ to account for this?

Thanks

If you are seeing issues with playback this is not expected. Even if the disk does fill up as Infuse caches a video, it will smartly remove old parts of the cache or use memory automatically.

If you are seeing issues with this please send in a report from your device and post the code here so we can look deeper into what may be going on.

I will point out the upcoming 8.5 update will improve support for timeouts and reconnections, so if you are in a situation where the device drops off the network during playback these changes may help.

I have seen people reporting this bug a few times

Hi James,

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

Yes I think my issue is due to timeout and reconnections.

For now I will continue with Memory Only and then after 8.5 is released I will try Auto again and see how it goes.

Thanks again
