Star rating in coverflow mode in incorrect

There is a bug with the star rating in coverflow mode.

Recently, I’ve been cleaning up my library by removing movies with somewhat lower star ranking. When I realised that the number of stars displayed was NOT ALWAYS the star ranking for the currently selected movie. But it looks like there is some remanence from a movie that was browed previously.

The unfortunate side effect is that I have erased movies that had a superior ranking than that indicated.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. go to coverflow mode
  2. go right several times to select a movie further down the list
  3. go back left - the star rating for that movie is not the one that was displayed during step 2.

Two examples are shown below:

  • example 1: go right to the next movie, go left immedialtely. The star ranking for Do You Trust This Computer has moved from 3.5 to 4.0
  • example 2: go right twice, go back left once, then once again. The star ranking for The Shape Of Water and Murder On The Orient Express is different each time

Has Infuse completed it’s fetching for all items in your library?

Infuse will currently use metadata from multiple sources, so the ratings may change slightly as Infuse works to complete its scan.

Once complete, the ratings you see in Infuse should mirror those found on https://trakt.tv

Yes it has. I’ve started noticing this bug a month or so ago, but wasn’t quite sure then. Then noticed it again but had no iphone at hand to make a picture. It’s definitely not related to fetching and I can reproduce it any time on my library. As soon as go from a 4 star to a 3 start movie and back, the bug will occur at the next-back or next-next-back movie.

What is stressing is that there is no way from telling which star ranking is correct, the one you see first or the one you see next. Then you start not trusting start rankings any longer.

What is weird it seems to be only happening to star rankings. The rest of the information seems to be ok, at least the title is. It’s as if some pointer was incorrectly set for this field.

I just noticed this same behavior in Infuse. The star ratings change as described by the OP.

Additionally, a THIRD different set of ratings can happen when I go up to the folder that contains the movies and select them individually. For example, one specific group of five consecutive movies show ratings like this:

Scrolling from left to right in coverflow:
3.5, 4.0, 4.0, 4.0, 3.0

Scrolling from right to left, the same movies (but listed here in the same order as above for comparison):
3.5, 3.5, 3.5, 3.5, 3.0

And when selected individually from the folder in any order (listed here in the same order as above for comparison):
3.5, 4.0, 4.0, 3.5, 3.0

This behavior is consistent and 100% repeatable. I am using my own NAS folders via NFS (not Library).

It seems that there ought to be a way to fix this.

Hmm, would you be able to provide a few pictures of what you are seeing, so we can check a few of these titles?

OK – here are images of three movies. They are 4 stars when scrolling through coverflow left to right. They are 3.5 stars when scrolling from right to left.

In order for this change to happen, you have to scroll at least one movie beyond the ones in question, and then go back. It doesn’t happen everywhere, but it certainly happens in multiple places. The result is that you can never be sure if the rating you see for any movie is accurate.

The problem still exists in Infuse 6. Is a solution in the works?

I’m interested in a solution as well. It’s been a while. Currently, I have no trust in the star rating, and this has impacted my trust in the app as a whole.
