ssh frontrow@AppleTV.local

Hello and many thanks to the ATV Ninjas,

I am stumped at a recent outcome to an otherwise normal task. SSH’ing to my Apple TV yields the following in the Terminal: “-bash-2.05b$”

There is no request for password. There is no further action that is evident for me - commands are not recognized. I encounter similar outcome when SSH’ing to the ATv IP address. As it is, I am stumped.

Could a member of the community please enlighten me as to the cause of this event and more to the point explain how I may be able to rectify it? Thank you.

I replied to you on Twitter, but if that did not fix it, then try these things. I would first be sure your AppleTV is still named AppleTV in iTunes, if you change that name the *.local name changes too. Second, if you want, I would go in to ~/.ssh and delete the known_hosts file. Retry connecting to the AppleTV either by name or IP address and it will ask you if you want to allow it, type Y. Let me know if that works or not.

Thanks madcran.

Unfortunately, deleting the known_hosts file did not lead to success. Likewise for renaming the machine.

Here is a help list from the Terminal, listing commands for bash: http://img.skitch.com/20090127-tuk1xwmnurriwh7epn341jfxm.jpg.

Actually you are perfectly fine. You are in the AppleTV and can now run commands in the AppleTV.

I inferred that the list of commands would be helpful. My Terminal skills are clearly novice (at best) and thus I do not know how to ‘translate’ the commands,

sudo mv com.bjango.istatserver.plist /Library/LaunchDaemons/
sudo chown root:wheel /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.bjango.istatserver.plist
sudo reboot

to the -bash interface. In typing the commands, -bash does not recognize them. I’m afraid that I am a fish out of water in this environment.
