JAMES - In fixing the favorites ordering on IOS and IPAD you have managed to BREAK IT on TVOS … The 2,000 year old standar of Alphabetical ordering is a pretty basic thing. For example - on my media server I have folders and in those folder I have other folders - eg: Main Folder “Current TV” and in there every TV series in their own Folder. Also in there is another folder called “Current TV” - I need that to always show as the FIRST folder on the screen - how is that done ? - its done the 2,000 years old way of putting a space in front on the name so it becomes " Current TV" … if I ever wanted to put something in front of that I could put TWO SPACES in front of the name and it would then jump in front of my lead “Current TV” folder. YOU AHVE BROKEN THAT. BUT … thats also not the end of it … when looking at the folders layout generally some of them have jumped around with just bizarre alphabetical ordering. for example how does “The Assassin” come first BEFORE “A Taste For Murder” which is then followed by “After The Flood” … that is NOT correct. In my “Comedy” folder the series “Detectorists” and “Friday Night Dinner” appeared BEFORE “Absolutely Fabulous” and “Action Team” … please put whatever you have broken back the way it was … not only was the previous method of alphabetical ordering as old as the Romans but it has also been STANDARD on Infuse throughout its lifetime as well.
Hmmmm - let me tryand change it … however, the point being is that I have had my system like this for years without a problem and yesterday it changed - so you have clearly done something at your end that has broken something that was working ? and with 60,000 TV Episodes this is a headache (Slightly) - For now I have got around it by renaming Detectorists to DDectorists. For Kids TV for example has to be by date order that way they can see all the new series coming first … your default was to put them in date order first and then to put them in alphabetical order … everything older slid down the list no matter what the alphabet range was. Movies HAS to be DATE order so you always see the latest movies at the start - and with 5,500 movies thats fairly important. It doesnt explain why Assassins is coming before Action … - let me play and I’ll come back to you - but it would be useful to know what youve changed and why ?
James - the problem is in “Sort by Release Date” that is where the break has occurred. - as I mentioned chenging to " Sort By Name" which seems to have remained unbroken does not help because that will send the 1,200 odd movies in my “ACTION” folder into a complete mess putting some movies from as early as 1930 before movies released last week. Finding by name is only any good if you can remember the name of the movie you are looking for - wheras release date order narrows the field down and makes finding te movie relatively easier … anyway, the point is I have switched to the various SORT options and the onlt one that has changed in this relaease is Release Date - it is most certainly broken - and by that I mean it no longer works the way it has for the last 15 years !!! - Simon.
James - I have debugged this for you and quite frankly how you have changed this to such a magnitude is beyond comprehension. The issue is this - If I have a folder for TV and in there I have Series 1 (folder), Series 2 (folder) etc and nothing else then its behaves as it always has. HOWEVER, if I also have a folder in there called SPECIALS this update has screwed it up and alters even where it now sits alphabetically. If I also have a folder in there called “Movies” which might contain a movie made for a TV Series that is not designated as a Special - than that is also screwed up by the update. If I move all the specials out of the folder and delete the folder named specials it starts to behave normally BUT Worse still - If I have a custom graphic in there for my Specials I can no longer use it and rely on idiotc and contantly changing TVMB kids messing around with folder graphics on a weekly basis. This is a right MESS James and whatever you have done needs to be reversed as I can see absolutely no reason why it might have been changed in the first place. You must remeber that power users of Infuse have 40TB or MORE of material stored and changes like this can mess up YEARS - YES James YEARS of work ! So for now I have temp fixed it (the issue with being able to use a space in front of the name to put it first) - but anything that contains TV Series folder 1, 2, 3 etc and 4 or 5 special S00E0x etc are still not sorting themselves alphabetically - for example the Series “Vera” is now appearinh half down my screen instead of where I had deliberately put it for ease of finding it.
Can you share a few screenshots showing how your files and folders are organized? We have a few fixes coming in the next update, but want to ensure these cover your use case.
Dear James, please find some images which I hope shows you what you need - Dropbox link to photos
Could I possibly make a suggestion seeing as this update takes me back to the ones years ago that quite clearly had not been tested by anyone and that you re-ipload the previousd version until youve sorted it all out seeing as the previous version worked PERFECTLY !!! - You will be aware by now that there are substantial errors showing up in this version which is enourmously bugged (and NOT just by the issue of putting a special folder inside your series folder (although the indexing bug may well be causing the crashes. I have had 15 separate crashes in the last 4 days as well as spinning balls and refusals to play. This is a BAD, BAD update James (as far as the TVOS is concerned) and should not have been released. Waiting for fixes that may or may not work is not reasonable whan you had a wroking and stable version to start with and that industry standard is to put it back and not let all of your customers put up with the grief of a thoroughly untested version.
Please give today’s 8.4.4 update a try and let us know if things look better for you.
If you are seeing issues with playback, please send in a report from your device (and post the code here) so we can look further into what may be going on.
