Some video formats fail to play using SFTP

I have some files that play successfully via webdav, but when using sftp, it fails to play. Streaming starts but after 15-30 seconds, it stops and is stuck at the loading symbol. I’ve tested with both Apple TV and iPhone and the same thing happens.

On other players, the same files are able to be played successfully over sftp, so I believe it’s an issue with Infuse.

I don’t have much more info, but these files all seem to have EAC3 audio, and multiple subtitles, example mediainfo output:

Audio format:
Format : E-AC-3 JOC
Format/Info : Enhanced AC-3 with Joint Object Coding
Commercial name : Dolby Digital Plus with Dolby Atmos
Codec ID : A_EAC3

Subtitle format:
Format : UTF-8
Codec ID : S_TEXT/UTF8
Codec ID/Info : UTF-8 Plain Text

Tested on 6.5.7.

Another guess is that this only happens for bigger files…

Same for me, SFTP is just plain slow. About 50 MBit/s , the ATV4k Connection has around 400 MBit/s Wifi.

Large files will take quite a while to load just to end up buffering a few seconds later. High quality 4K is not usable.

I connect to my Mac via SFTP as I use an external drive. No difference for local files however.

I‘ll send a bug report separately.

Have you tried using another protocol to see how things perform?

SMB or NFS are usually good options on macOS.

Note: NFS is not enabled by default on macOS, but can be enabled with a bit of fiddling.
