Some Dolby questions

I’m no expert but trying to understand.

1- i know the ATV doesn’t support lossless passthrough. But does Infuse sends Dolby Mat data?

If yes, is there really a difference between truehd atmos passthrough (on an nvidia shield for example) versus LPCM+Dolby MAT on apple tv?

2- for DTS:X, I suppose you don’t have choice to use another box?

3- About Dolby vision. I know ATV supports profile 5 only. What happens of I play a DV remux file (no FEL layer) on both shield and ATV. Is there a difference?

4- and what about MEL+FEL. I think the shield just ignores it. What about Appletv and infuse?

I know some people converts to profile 8, not sure if it’s worth the time and effort.

Thanks

No one? :frowning:

  1. No, I believe Infuse just sends EAC3 or LPCM. MAT comes from tvOS.
  2. Again only LPCM. Need shield or other for full DTS:X or Atmos support
  3. Not sure about DV5 remux. Those are mixing two sources to create a DV version when the original disc did not have DV? I believe it’s not always perfect. But I’m also not sure that ATV and Shield process DV the same.
  4. If you play a profile 7 with MEL or FEL in infuse, yes it’s ignored and HDR10 is used instead. If you convert to profile 8, those are ignored as well but you still get DV. In some cases, dropping FEL for profile 8 doesn’t lose important metadata needed. Personally I convert all profile 7 with MEL only to 8. It’s a pretty quick and easy conversion.
