I currently use NFS, but it would be great to streamline my setup and use SMB3 for everything. How does SMB3 compare to NFS? Is it safe to make the switch or should I wait?
They are now pretty much on par, though SMB is supported on a much wider array of devices. Performance can also vary based on the device you are streaming from (some are reporting slow speeds with NFS on macOS, while SMB is faster).
You can experiment with SMB3 by setting up a second share on your device to see how it works before removing the NFS based share.
