Been using Infuse on Apple TV 4K for about a month, generally quite pleased but subtitle handling is driving me nuts! I know what behavior I want from Infuse, so please let me know if this is possible…
- I always want the primary audio track to be selected by default. This already works OK. As a result, the selected audio track might or might not be my primary language (English).
- If that audio track isn’t my primary language, then I want primary-language subtitles turned ON. Otherwise I can’t understand the dialogue.
- Or, if that audio track is my primary language, then I probably want subtitles turned OFF, since I can already understand the dialogue.
Really, this logic is incomplete because it ignores forced subtitles – that would be an exception to the third rule, where the forced primary-language track should be turned ON if it exists. But, I want to get this basic logic working first, then worry about forced subs.
In Infuse settings, I can set my subtitle language to English, which will always turn on English subtitles (even when the audio is in English too, in which case I have to turn them off manually), or I can set them to “Forced Only” or Off, which means that I have to turn them on manually for anything with non-English audio. Is there any way to get “smart” subtitles on/off?
