I use shuffle play for BGTV( BackGround TV), since I need noise on to focus on my work. But I leave it on for breaks or if I finish work and just need to relax.
I’ve noticed when I use my iPhone to shuffle the episodes in a series, if I stopped in the middle of a show, when shuffle starts playing it, it’ll pick up where I left off. BUT - it seems to ignore the played/unplayed info if the whole episode is marked played and will just play it again. Actually, I like that it shuffles all episodes and ignores if they’ve been played.
What’s going on with this? I just want to clarify the rules for how this works on shuffle vs. normal playback.

Also, I don’t know if this part is related or not, but I have a twist to my setup, which may make a difference: Since my video files are used by different programs (mostly Infuse and Plex, but also Emby and VLC), so instead of setting up playlists for every single program, one trick I’ve done is to create a a folder on my media file server titled “Playlists.” And in it I have directories. In those directories, I have symlinks to the actual files. I don’t know how important that is, but for an example:
Actual files in:
/volume1/Library/Video/TVShows/Comedy/GilligansIsland/<all episodes of Gilligan’s Island>
And symlinks in:
/volume1/Library/Video/Playlists/GilligansIsland/
Since I’m shuffling the playlists, does it see the files or series in the symlinks as the same as the real files? Or does it treat them as 2 different shows?
