Should I get a new router

Not sure if this is the best place for this post, but here goes anyway. Should I replace my Verizon FiOS gateway and purchase a new router/gateway? Would there be any benefits to buying one. I don’t have to pay a monthly fee for the G3100 it was free when i changed my plan a while back.

I don’t use the G3100 for wifi I have two wireless AP’s.

Most devices use Ethernet only phones and a laptop use wifi.

I ran out of ports on my TP-Link switch and will be forced to use an old Netgear router as an additional switch if I add an additional device.

I was thinking of purchasing a multi gig router to prepare for 10gbe but now have realized it will not be worth the expense since my hardware will not support it along with other issues that may come up after purchasing a 10GB gateway

So the only reason would be for a more manageable router and not have to rely on the G3100.

Ever since I began using the AP’s mt network has been rock solid with an occasional reboot of my G3100 and switch.

If your only current problem is you’re out of Ethernet ports I’d just get a simple gigabit switch and not rock the boat. Just got a couple myself recently just to have a few extra ports.

This is what I got.

If you are currently satisfied with your network’s performance and only need additional Ethernet ports, purchasing a switch may be a more cost-effective option than buying a new router/gateway. However, if you are experiencing frequent issues with your current equipment, or if you need advanced features such as Quality of Service (QoS) or Virtual Private Network (VPN) capabilities, it may be worth investing in a new router/gateway.

Thanks to all that have replied. I have decided to keep my existing router, which is at no cost.

I have decided to spend the money on larger HD drives or a :scream: new streaming device.
