I just swapped out my Full-HD projector for a 4k one. I performed “Check HDMI-connection” on the ATV and now it appears that the ATV converts every video file to 2160p. Is there a way to “passthrough” video content (e.g. 1080p) untouched and let the projector do the scaling?
I also would like to know what the optimal settings on the ATV & Infuse are for using the 4k projector.
I currently have these settings (on ATV):
FORMAT: 4k HDR (what about the other option for 59.94 Hz?)
CHROMA: 4:2:0 (should I switch to 4:2:2?)
MATCH DYNAMIC RANGE: ON
MATCH FRAME RATE: ON
Did I miss any setting on the ATV (it’s an old model A1842 / 64GB)?
I am not aware of any relevant settings on Infuse (Pro 7.8 / 4868), but maybe there are some?
You can set the output resolution manually, but unfortunately Apple does not provide a way for apps to adjust the resolution on-the-fly like they do for dynamic range and frame rate.
With that said, Infuse does include some fairly advanced upscaling baked in so the result you get playing 1080p with 4K output is going to be pretty good.
The one case I have found when such upscaling of 1080p to 4K can be a problem is when playing a 1080p SBS 3D movie.
My projector in this case will not allow you to switch it into 3D SBS mode if it receives a 4K signal. Luckily I don’t have too many 3D movies I want to watch so manually changing the output setting to ensure in this case only a 1080p signal is sent isn’t too much of a hassle.

Good to hear! Thanks for your reply!
Any comments on my settings (or settings I have not mentioned) for optimal video?
