@James is there anything at all you can suggest to your users to help resolve this issue?
It looks like the update/restore process is starting to work for some users: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3128667?start=15&tstart=0
It’s still not working here, but hopefully it should be resolved soon.
@ james is there any way to point sea0npass to the ipsw file locally? Also do you know why Pwnage errors out when pointed to the AppleTV2,1_4.3_8F305_Restore.ipsw stored locally?
Yes, if you have the IPSW file on your system already you can option + click (Mac) or shift + click (PC) the ‘Create IPSW’ button.
Doing this will allow you to use a local IPSW file instead of downloading a new one.
Make sure you are looking in /Library/WebServer/Documents/ and not ~/Library/WebServer/Documents/
Also did you switch on WebSharing from Sharing under System Preferences
Having followed the steps to have Seas0nPass download from local webserver buy modifying /private/etc/hosts to 127.0.0.1, it downloaded the file, and then was looking like all was working, but resulted in following error: “iTunes restore script failed!, selecting IPSW in Finder…”
edit: just realised… this placed a new version of the IPSW in ~/ home folder. Then went to iTunes and then manually restored with option click restore and it completed… now for Install aTV .
After showing transferring files for some time, it now shows Installation failed… oops it looks like your AppleTV has not yet been jailbroken.
Well, james has now said that you can manually point seas0npass to a ipsw file in any local folder. I tried it and it does work but the restore failed for me in iTunes becuase I had the server hosts pointing in the wrong direction. I corrected that with Tiny Umbrellas, went to rerun seas0npass only to realize that the original IPSW file had been deleted (by seas0npass I’m assuming?). So it’s start over for me…
James, thanks for the “option + click” tip, knowing that, there is no need to go and trick Seas0nPass into downloading the IPSW from the local apache web server by modifying the hosts file. Just browse for the IPSW…
Today’s afternoon, (GMT+1 here in Spain), I’ve verified that gs.apple.com is reachable at 17.112.172.11
ping gs.apple.com
PING gs.apple.com.akadns.net (17.112.176.11): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 17.112.176.11: icmp_seq=0 ttl=230 time=209.880 ms
I’ve tried running Seas0nPass again, and it worked!
It seems Apple’s servers are back online. iTunes finished the “verifying update with Apple” witout issues, and installed the modified firmware on my AppleTV2 :)
I’m new to all this jailbreaking stuff, and hence a bit confused. I’ve had great help so far from this thread but have a few questions.
Will I or won’t I get stuck halfway through the process using the option+click command?
If I try and it doesn’t work, can I restore my aTV2 in any way?
Thank you in advance.
Just hold SHIFT and click the update button to have Seas0nPass browse for the IPSW file instead of downloading it.
You can find the 8F305 file by searching Google.
My ATV came with a newer firmware version: AppleTV2,1_4.3_8F191m_Restore
Has anyone successfully jailbroken this OS?
The IPSW download seems to be working again here. :)
It seems to download but I’m getting hung up on 'Unzipping IPSW…"
Any thoughts?
@beaumac Got mine yesterday… i am still trying to get it into DFU… not possible yet
Should i update to the new 8F305 and then try to put it into DFU? Some of you tried that?
it finally worked… just download the file from megaload and renamed it… SP did check the sum and it worked… also the DFU wasn´t a problem anymore… iTunes just doesn`t say “Hey I found a device in DFU!” ;)
Hello
Can somebody help me?? i´m trying to jailbreak apple tv2 with Seass0npass, but ti doesn’t work.
i download the firmware F305 y F202. With the first don’t work, and with the second makes the IPSW without problem, but when i want to put the atv in DFU mode is impossible.
I had the same problem getting into DFU mode. here is what I did
I plugged in the power cable and started iTunes.
My cable was bad and iTunes did not see the ATV so I tried a new cable and it showed up in iTunes. (make sure the cable is not one that has the round Iron rings around it, this seems to have an effect on the power I think.)
Close iTunes
I disconnected the USB and power and started over jailbreaking and let it rebuild the file
when asked i plugged the ATV in and THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART, I waited about 2 seconds after plugging it in before hitting the Menu/Play buttons. Timing seems to be very important. If it doesn’t work, unplug the ATV and try again. Seas0nPass will keep looking until you get it right.
Hope this helps
Thanks a lot for your answer
I achieve to enter DFU mode but when start to install the new firmware give me an error and says me that look for the firmware in finder in iTunes. I try with the alt to choose the firmware and says that “this device isnt eligible for the requested buid”. Now i have two problems, beause now appear two apple tv in itunes, and is impossible to restor to original firmware. i cant reset the atv
