Repeated Failed Complete Install

Hardware: ATV 1st Gen 160GB, 3.0.2 firmware

I noticed recently that I was unable to install any extras from the Maintenance Menu.  When clicking on the menu item, all I would eventually get (after 3-4 minutes) was a blank screen and a .pkg icon with “Install Extras” written next to it…but nothing to install or update.  I noticed about the same time that XBMC and Boxee were starting to slow down, so when the aTV Flash 4.5, I immediately tried to update my system to try and cure those issues.

After updating, I found that I don’t have menu items for Launcher, NitoTV, or Boxee/XBMC.  When I tried to go to Maintenance --> Settings, I was unable to run the Nito Smart Installer.  Then when trying Maintenance --> Install Extras, I still get a blank screen, with no Extras to install.

I tried doing a factory restore, updating to 3.0.2 again, and then re-jailbreaking, connecting via SSH and dumping my old copy of the OSX 10.4.9 Combo Updater into the /frontrow/Documents folder…but same results.  No Launcher, No NitoTV, No Boxee/XBMC, No Extras.

Now, when I boot up I get all of the regular ATV menus and functionality, but cannot access any of the jailbreak features such as external drives, nitoTV, XBMC, etc etc etc.

Ideas???

Update:

I was able to get NitoTV installed manually by downloading the NitoTV_tt files from their web site, and following their Terminal instructions.  I then went to the Maintenance --> Settings menu, and click on the Smart Installer, and it finally seemed to install all of the NitoTV stuff correctly (at least I now have a menu item for it).  I went into the NitoTV Settings and updated all of the codecs, perian, and other addons.

However…when trying to play a video file on my external drive, all I get is a black screen.  When scrolling through the file list, I get screenshots of each video, but the files will not play.  They are all simple avi’s.

Again…Ideas??
