Real-Time HDR Metadata & Luminance Overlay

I know this might sound a bit niche at first…but hear me out, because it could be incredibly useful for both enthusiasts and pros alike.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if Infuse had an optional, transparent on-screen overlay that shows real-time luminance levels and HDR metadata while watching HDR10 or Dolby Vision content?

Sometimes, it’s hard to tell if crushed blacks or blown-out highlights are part of the source, or if it’s a limitation of your display. A luminance/nits overlay could instantly show you what’s really going on in the scene, where the dynamic range sits, whether your TV can handle it, and what kind of HDR metadata is being sent.

Right now, the only way I can do this is by pulling the file into DaVinci Resolve and using scopes, which is time-consuming and overkill just to satisfy a quick curiosity.

Interestingly, I used to own a Panasonic projector that had a very similar feature baked in, so this kind of tool has been done before, and it’s incredibly insightful for HDR analysis.

Even just a simple toggle in the playback settings for a visual overlay showing peak brightness or frame-by-frame nits data would be a game-changer for anyone who cares about video quality.
