Real Jailbreak ? not requiring a external computer connected during boot up ?

Hi Folks,

As living in a country, were switching power off on non needed devices is quite common (to preserve the environment) - I was wondering if a static jailbreak (surviving a reboot/poweroff) is planned.

Note - for that for burning 1 Kg of coal equivalent, you get about 8,141 Watt hour of electricity (in an optimized environment).

So - for every apple TV that runs in Idling around (using 1.3W while idling), every ~6 hours of active duty, 1Kg of coal is being burned. I know it's not much compared to US standard in care combustion, however it's just the relation I'd like to state here.

The other issue is - that I don't have a laptop to tether the Apple TV2 - hence have to bring the entire equipment (Computer, screen, keyboard etc. to the location the apple TV 2 is, to tether it)....

So - when will we have a static jailbreak ? Any ETA ?

Thx

I like your environmental concerns and think more should be concerned with these types of topics, unfortunately the teams involved in creating the untether (not firecore) may not care so much (or might, who am I to say..) when comparing that to their time, money, and effort on creating the code...

I would follow @comex, @musclenerd, @iphone_dev, and @chronicdevteam on twitter (and of course @firecore ;)) for the latest updates and eta's (although no firm etas have been announced). The rumor is soon, and there have been proof of concepts already, just not for general consumption. musclenerd (iphone dev team) has stated it is being worked on, and is being worked on by comex and/or chronicdev for 4.2.1 (as well as 4.3), but nothing more than that.

From my other post:

Once there is an offical dev team release, or comex release, or greenpois0n release that "untethers" the jailbreak, Seas0npass will be updated to accommodate.

On the same note my iphone 4 was replaced by apple yesterday (sad, lost jailbreak) and came with 4.2.1 stock. I'm waiting to jailbreak the iPhone until the untether is released for 4.2.1 (or 4.3), it does become a huge pain to tether boot....

rumor is there should be one soon, the above teams minus the dev team (focused on other tasks) are working on it.  greenpois0n demonstrated a 4.2.1 untether recently, but it is in testing before general release...

The for the info. That's what I have found so far myself...

Anyway - the AppleTV 2 is a hell of a hardware, especially if I could just link it to my NAS (Linux) that would be really great ...

I am in a similar situation as you as to the distance of the AppleTV to the Computer since I have no laptop, and there is no PPC Version of SeasonPass available.

What I did to make it work was use a long extension cord on the AppleTV so I can take it to where the computer is to reboot tethered, then I carry it in to the room with the TV and plug it back in..I am using a 25' extension cord LOL
