Problems playing avi's with DVD

Hi,

I just installed atv Flash 3.4.2 on my Apple TV. I installed it exactly according to the instructions. I restored the Apple TV to it’s original software (1.0 software), then upgraded to the latest version of the software (2.3) and used the new 3.4.2 patchstick. Everything went well. I then enabled the USB external hard drive support.

Now when I play .avi’s on the Apple TV using DVD, some of the videos won’t play at all, I get sound but no video. Others play but the Apple TV reboots first (at least that is what I think it is doing, the Apple logo appears briefly on the screen), the screen will jump and stutter and then the video will play.

Before this update I was using Sapphire to play the video and everything worked great, but for some reason Sapphire stopped working and I was forced to do the update (Sapphire showed a yellow icon next to it and displayed no files in the attached hard drive).

I’m hoping that when the new version of Sapphire is release it will solve my problems but in the meantime can anyone suggest a fix for this please?

Thanks

Kevin

Avi’s are best played through the ‘Files’ plugin. Alternatively, you can change the Playback Mode in DVD > Settings to QuickTime or Mixed for improved avi playback.

Thanks for the reply,

I’m a little confused now. You say that Avi’s are best played through the 'Files" plugin. I though that was what I was doing.

I go to “DVD’ in the left hand navigation list and then choose 'Files” from the top of the list on the right hand side. Then I navigate to the external hard drive to choose a file to play. Is this what you mean by using the File plugin? If it isn’t how do I find the Files plugin.

I’ll try changing the file playback mode as you suggest to see if this helps.

Thanks again
