Playback randomly blackouts/stops using Infuse tvOS 8.1.3

Hi,

Recently I’ve been experiencing an issue with Infuse while streaming TV shows from my Jellyfin server. Playback stops randomly, sometimes after just a minute or two, other times after 20-30 minutes. The screen goes black with no audio or video, yet subtitles and the progress bar continue. The same content streams flawlessly via my LG TV webOS Jellyfin app which I used as a backup, as well as other third-party apps, so the server appears to be fine.

I recently relocated the TV box to a spot with weaker Wi-Fi, where the in-app speed test shows around 200 Mbps. Could this be an Infuse issue, or might it be related to configuration or network stability?

Infuse 8.1.3 tvOS
Apple TV 4K 2022 tvOS 18.3.1
Jellyfin server 10.9.7 Linux

If you want to test out the sever I can give you a test account and the server should be accessible within the US with a reasonable speed.

This is exactly happening to me on my Plex server. My Apple TV is directly wired so it isn’t your WiFi. This definitely seems like a Infuse bug.

Apple TV 2nd gen 4K 18.4
Latest Plex server on Unraid Server
Infuse Pro 8.1.3

I just turned off Dolby Vision in the Infuse settings and i’m going to see if it happens with plain HDR. I’ll update later.

Edit: It happens with HDR too and it’s direct playing video/audio from the server.

Is this happening with specific video files?

If so, can you send a sample we would be able to test here?

Oh, my goodness! This has been driving me crazy, I’m glad it’s not just me! I couldn’t for the life of me figure this out until I realized it was only happening in Infuse! Been like this for the last few weeks, screen goes black, sound disappears, but the progress bar continues.

I sent an email to Firecore and I sent an example of it happening. Can’t get through more than a few minutes sometimes without it happening. If you rewind or fast forward, the picture and sound comes back. Hope this is fixed soon!

I sent in a sample video here as well of the issue happening. Hope it helps!

Hi, I believe this issue affects many titles on my server, so it doesn’t seem tied to a specific file. It occurs most frequently with 4K HDR (HDR10, DV whatever)content, while 1080p files appear to play without problems. Also I’m wondering if airplay (I use HomePods as sound output) might be the issue. I’m happy to share the logs if you can let me know how. Thanks!

You can use the Submit Diagnostics option found in Infuse > Settings (tvOS) or the Settings > Email Us option (iOS/macOS/visionOS) and post the 5 digit code here.

Yes only happens with 4k HDR/DV content and EAC5.1 audio. 4k Remuxes w\HDR and lossess audio don’t seem to be affected.

Please check it out!

Sorry to hear about this but thanks for sending in the reports.

We are looking into this.

I’m having the same issue. Diagnostic code 020CZ.

4k Remuxes w\HDR and lossess audio don’t seem to be affected.

I had this issue watching an HDR (no DV) remux with TrueHD Atmos 7.1 audio.

Oh I might be wrong then on the remuxes then. Are you using Homepods too? Maybe that is the common denominator with this issue?

Nope.

EDIT: I’m using a Plex server, not Jellyfin. I’d posted about my issue in a Reddit thread and someone sent me here, presumably not reading OPs setup (not that I did any better!).

On my side, this keeps happening with DV files (no issue for now on HDR remux).

To be clear, the image becomes black and there is no sound anymore but the playback bar keeps progressing. If I just jump back 10 seconds with the remote, everything comes back to normal.

I’m on Apple TV 4K latest gen with a pair of HomePods 2.

Here is my latest cases : 0FEF2 (not sure if the fist character is a 0 or a O)
HNA8Q

Yes that is the exact behavior and if you have subtitles on they will continue but with a black screen and no sound.

Under video settings changing Chroma to 4.2.2 seems to have fixed the issue so far, using two HomePods.

Some reason it was on 4.20

didn’t work, it’s now black screening

Gotta be an issue with infuse an update broke something

I do have subtitles as well and indeed same behavior

+1. This happens quite frequently with DV P5 files. A 10-second rewind (by clicking on the left side of the touch surface) seems to fix it. Also, when it occurs, it’s impossible to exit the playback screen using the Menu button.
