Infuse only plays content in the original quality — there is no transcoding — so in most cases there really isn’t any helpful information to be gleaned (as is the case with YouTube TV or Netflix or Plex where the stream quality is adjusted on the fly based on current network conditions).
Infuse already contains a utility to measure the speed and consistency of your internet / intranet connection to your file server. This is pretty much the only relevant troubleshooting information Infuse can provide for streaming issues.
You can either play content (over the internet) or you can’t. This all depends on the bitrate of the file (consider a 150+ gig 4K BD remux vs a 20 gig rip or a 2 gig rip) and if one’s available upload and download bandwidth availability is high enough to support it (including an extra percentage for the transport overhead).
However I understand you and others have reasons you want the feature and perhaps someday it will be added … but I’m afraid Firecore has previously announced it’s not likely to be a priority given what I mentioned above.
But who knows? Maybe someone has an idea how to quickly add it and and surprises us. Such things have happened before. ![]()

*UPDATED to add paragraph about Infuse’s built in utility to measure the speed and quality of Infuse’s connection with users’ media servers.
There’s a few reasons why I’m interested in this information:
When something is not working, what matters is the peak bitrate. So infuse gives me the bitrate it can process, but how do I know the specific file’s peak bitrate to compare?
When looking at a few different versions of the same file, how do I know which one to play? Beyond 4K, what’s important is the CODEC and the bitrate. The exact audio format is also useful (how many channels, Atmos, etc.).
*Not discounting your desires; simply trying to suggest alternatives to consider in the meantime.
Infuse streams at whatever bitrate the file is encoded as. If the file was encoded with a variable bit rate, that’s how Infuse will stream it. It doesn’t scan the thing prior to figure out that peak rate — It would have to download or stream the whole thing to determine that anyway. If you want to see the bitrate while you are watching … I’d ask, why? It’s working.
There are other tools to possibly determine what you seek — for example:
Infuse shows video resolution and codecs on video pre-playback details screens; and (unless my memory is mistaken) the file size at the bottom along side the video filename. Until the live specs are introduced, that might help.
If you have the ability to rename the files (to include desired tech details), that also may help. But if you are having difficulty choosing between many different versions I’m figuring you may be subscribed to a large server somewhere; and that is a bummer (in not having control of the contents).
just wanted to add my support for infuse somewhere in the UI to show the data/stats for the file it is playing video and audio codec, resolution, HDR and type, audio channels, bitrate either static, peak or even a little graph, I don’t know.
I appreciate the argument that infuse either plays or it doesn’t but I and others clearly want this feature even if it just makes us feel better about the world and it feels easy to add. the client already has all this data, it just needs to display it somewhere, and the info pull down panel seems an ideal place.
Infuse, this seems like something you could throw an intern at.. do you have interns? if someone wants to do it over lunch I’ll buy them a beer! ![]()
I really hope that Infuse can display detailed video information, such as video format, bitrate, etc.Like Emby!strong text That would be very useful.
Hi
I’m streaming video files from my iMac to my Apple TV using an FTP server. Everything works great, but I’m wondering, is there any way to view detailed streaming information while watching?
Specifically, I’d like to see things like current stream speed, bitrate, buffering behavior, sound quality or any other playback stats. Stats for nerds.
Is there a way to access these details, either within Infuse or through external monitoring tools?
Thanks!
Not currently but I moved your post to a suggestion thread requesting this feature.

Done. But Ooof… 7 years since original request. This will never come….

Sometimes dreams come true
this is now in progress ![]()
Well, what does that mean? Could be a week, a year or longer?
It means it is being actively coded for an upcoming version (weeks not years). This is the last tag before being released. It is planned for 8.3.2
Oh, ok. Thank you!!
I also really like this feature, such a powerful feature should be reflected in Infuse, and it would be very useful when combined with multi-version switching. I mentioned detailed improvements in this post: 迫切希望修改版本切换和增加视频详细信息页面 . I’m not sure if @james is interested in doing this.
This is available for Apple TV in today’s 8.3.3 update. ![]()
Support for other platforms will likely land in 8.3.4.
works great, thanks!
I was expecting it in the top bar as an additional tab, but this works well
A post was split to a new topic: Close Button on HUD
How can we enable the HUD? I’m on version 8.3.4 and can’t seem to find it on tvOS.
